Sakae SS200S Sngle Braced Snare Drum Stand
C**E
No memory locks and not particularly light for a single-brace stand.
I happened to catch this during one of Amazon's markdowns and got it for $51. It typically sells on Amazon for between $135-$139, so one might think I got a terrific deal; I would have, had this come with memory locks (it came with only one for the boom arm but none for the two tubes). What usually separates a "budget" cymbal stand from a "professional model" is that the former is typically a one-stage design with no memory locks and the latter is two-stage with memory locks. I cannot think of any "pro-level" cymbal stand (or any stand that sells for over $100) that doesn't come with memory locks. At first I thought that someone had kept them (many of Amazon's markdowns are often returned merchandise), but looking at the photos on the box it came in leads to me to think that it doesn't come with any. What's worse is this stand uses a "non-standard" memory lock (the nub is about half the width of those found on most other memory locks), so trying to find remedy by reaching into the parts drawer was fruitless pursuit. Sakae makes some very nice drums but their dealer network in the US is rather spotty, and though I have not yet looked for these anywhere, I'd suspect that the few Sakae dealers there are out there probably don't stock the memory locks for this particular stand. Finally, while this stand appears to be well made and sturdy, it weighs over ten pounds, which negates any weight-saving advantage supposedly inherent with a single-brace stand. Since it's three days past the last day that I could return this I guess I'm stuck with it.

Really lightened my hardware bag.
Ok, I have very heavy Yamaha 8 series stands and 9000 series DW stands. They are great except they are very heavy. I wanted a light set of flat base stands for my jazz kit. I found the Sakae flat base hi hat, snare stand and cymbal stands to be much lighter and well finished. Just don’t use these outside in high winds.
