If you wonder if you should get one of these, you should get one of these. Worth it.
I've used the cheapy $20 label printers for 10 years and while they certainly do the job, and are inexpensive and portable, there are things...... Like how difficult it is to get the backing off the sticker. How clunky it is to make several labels quickly. And they are only convenient if you don't want to do anything fancy. The moment you try to make them look different, you're into menu diving and it slows you down. It can only only print horizontally and on 1 size of tape.Enter this monster. It's industrial strength build quality makes it feel like one of those things UPS drivers carry with them. Feels solid. Comes in a case you could happily throw from a moving vehicle without worry. The use by itself, is easy, and I was printing LAN identifier stickers in minutes. Thought it was great. Then I tried USB and the software, and that was even better. How could it get any better? Then I tried the IOS app and wifi mode, and carried it around the house with me, and printed a ton of lan and cable identifier stickers, labeled my smart home switches so people can tell the ceiling fan switch from the light switch. Labeled a bunch of parts boxes and stuff with text and barcodes for figuring out where my stuff in in my over crowded storage boxes. This took hours, and it didn't run out of battery, or give me any headaches. You get used to stuff not worknig, or not working in the way you hope it will work, because things are never easy, but this thing basically does what it says it does, and it does it without fuss or troubleshooting being required. It just works, and once you label all your audio, video, computer, and network cables and never again have to guess what you're unplugging later, you will beam with joy.

Love it!
This is probably one of my favorite purchases. It works exactly as I need it to, is user friendly, has decent battery life, and I love it! Went a little label-crazy as a part of reorganizing storage closets at work a while back and it has held up thus far.

This Labeler also automatically cuts the labels off after printing them...an incredible time saver!
This device is built very well, seems very solid construction. You can either plug it in and use it, use the rechargeable battery or run it off 6 AA batteries. The best feature is after it prints it cuts the tape automatically, and it doesn't print and waste 1/2" on both sides of the text when it prints like my previous labeler did. It can also be printed to wirelessly or via bluetooth from your PC and the program that you load on your phone or PC. It can also be used to print labels from a database program and print out large labeling projects for structured wiring. It also comes with a really nice carrying case to protect it. A simply amazing device!

Have bought several of them
I have used Brother label makers for over 25 years. In fact I have the original one I purchased and it still works fine today. I recently bought the E550W and liked it so well I bought one for all my employees. I used to hate working behind the TV. We had so many cables and it was a pain tracing where everything went to. The cable wrap and cable flag button quickly allows you to mark each cable. I now have all the power adapters and cables labeled to what they belong to and what they are connected to. The kids PS4 HDMI cable clearly shows that it plugs into HDMI 4 port of the TV. The HDMI 4 port of the TV clearly labels it is plugged into the PS4. When I need to power cycle the internet DSL modem, the power cable is labeled at the power strip and I don't have to trace it back. I am able to velcro strap the cables up neat and do not have to undo them to trace back to the correct cable. The serializer and database are an amazing feature as well. When running network cables I print several copies in numbered sequence. It spits out a long continuous strip and you just have to peel off the one that you need. I no longer have to print several individual labels in a pile and go through them all to find the label I need. The template feature is awesome as well. You can program a device id label with IP Address, Device Name, Router, etc. and then upload the template to the E550w. I then select the template and can modify the name and ip address on the label maker itself. When I take the label maker inside to a customers location they are all very impressed with the device. It makes labeling everything easy and makes everything look very professional. The cons are just a few. The device is pretty large. I do wish it was a little smaller. The rechargeable battery falls out a lot which shuts the device off and you have to power cycle it back on when changing tape colors and sizes. I wish either the battery had a separate door or would stay in the device better. I wish you could charge the device using a standard USB charging adapter. I wish the device could be configured to print in high resolution mode directly from the hand held. They only way to print Hi-Res is to manually select the setting each time from the computer software. Standard resolution is okay with simple labeling, but when printing out logos and pictures there is a pretty big difference in quality. I had one employee complain about the large size of the device, but a week later he admitted it was his goto device now and that documentation was much easier now and most customers have commented how nice of a job it has done.

This is a real pro tool
This is a very solid labeler, if you do a lot of IT labeling it's amazing with a zillion patch panel features and cabling options. It's also pretty straightforward to make labels using a spreadsheet and the computer software. The nice part of this is this acts like a totally wireless printer that roams around with you. It prints over wifi after you get it connected as a printer. When you boot it up you can see it connect to your wireless. Then you can do some nice chain printing and the labels just come out by where you're working. There is a beefy long lasting battery that frankly has never really gone done for me yet. It seems to last forever. You can also put in regular batteries if you ever get in a pinch.I've been using non-brother labels which have been working fine. Though off-brand doesn't do the "half-cut" feature as well but that is no fault of the labeler.Tip: Make sure to setup the printer drivers on your computer before trying to setup wifi. That's the only way I found to configure the IP address to work on my network. I plugged it into the usb port temporarily to set the right ID and give it a static IP. It took awhile to figure that out. They have software (BRAdmin Light) that helped. One slight downside is that the 36mm tape (very wide) doesn't fit in it.Other than that, it's a real pro tool.

Best overall labeller for onsite technicians
This labeler supports the larger label sizes and is great for wire-wrapping cables--especially if you hate label "flags". I've used this for network patch panels, wire wraps of CAT6, electrical cabling, etc. Check out the shrink wrap labels--they're great too. This may be a little pricey for the average home DIYer, but it's indispensable for onsite technicians who want their work to have a professional look.

Product feedback
Item received in good condition and fast delivery.

good unit
left one star off because it wastes at least 1/4"-1/2" of tape for every print. other than the wastage the unit is very good.

Great machine and easy to use.
This unit is worth everything you pay for it and more. Easy to use either alone or connected to a computer or iPad. You can design and save complex labels. I recently build a Hydraulic Test Bench and the customer needed it to be properly labeled. We were talking about Engraved White/Black plastic labels but they loved the 3/4" Black on Yellow Labels. I also did the whole machine on a little more than 1/2 a cartridge. The engraved labels would have cost me as much as this whole machine. Great carrying case too. The tapes are about 3 times longer than the competitors tapes.
