Coolest discovery by accident! Unfortunately, I'm still looking for all the parts and pieces
For the longest time, I have believed that a teleprompter would be a perfect thing to make our karaoke activities at most of our parties even more fun by facing the singer away from the background screen and towards the audience. I was actually very happy when I accidentally found this glass while searching “Karaoke” on Amazon. This is the coolest glass, and the “key” in the DIY teleprompter I am trying to put together. Yes, I recommend it! Unfortunately, there are some stumbling blocks in the way of making my perfect system. There is nothing wrong related to the glass, just the rest of the system is making me crazy. Here’s the list of current challenges: 1. I have a laptop with a non-detachable screen lid that cannot be oriented horizontally. I have to find a work-around, which may be by inclusion of a mirror to change the image from vertical to horizontal, to send the image upwards to the beam splitter glass. The addition of a mirror would also negate the image reversal issues, which would be a good thing. 2. The mirror area also adds cubic volume to the teleprompter making it more like a lectern instead of a slender pole stand presidential design I had hoped for. Lecterns are okay for speeches; not so good for performances. 3. The more issues I solve, the more I seem to create and each one costs money. Anyway, I’m having fun overcoming the frustrations while trying to keep down many of the costs. It seems like maybe the laptop may need to be replaced by a tablet or something like that. There are resources for DIYers on line, many have outdated links to parts and pieces but at least I know that the concept is still within grasp. SUMMARY: I’m happy have found this glass and I know I will be able to put it to very good use after resolving all the issues. All my ratings start at 3.0 Stars and this one gets a 0.5 increase for being cool and project inspiring. It gets another 0.5 points for being such a high quality, and another 0.25 for great protective packaging for shipping. MY RATING SYSTEM: Ratings are based on my personal use and research. All items are in the middle “average”3.0-Star until I discover otherwise. Only whole point scoring is recorded so partial scores will be rounded up at half point or more and down if under half point. Rating scores are occasionally revised at a later date; if that is the case an explanation will be provided in the particular review. Thank you. 5-STAR = Much better than advertised and/or expected. Claims are realistic; ratings & certifications are appropriate and checked out where possible. Exceeds 4-STAR. “ WOW” kind of items definitely to be recommended. 4-STAR = As expected or better. Claims are realistic; ratings & certifications are appropriate and checked out where possible. Fairly priced, good quality & usability, not likely to fall apart. “KEEP & USE” items to be recommended or purchased again repeatedly as needed. 3-STAR - As expected. Claims are realistic; ratings & certifications are appropriate and checked out where possible. Items are good quality, well finished, and priced fairly however nothing stands out. Examples include mass-produced “ME-TOO” items for sale under many different names. 2-STAR = Not as good as expected. The item works, but does not quite meet specifications of 3 STAR or better as described above. “NEEDS IMPROVEMENT” 1-STAR = Far below expectation. Claims, ratings, certifications are blatantly inaccurate and/or inappropriate. Low quality possibly resulting in failure, injury or worse; poor durability. “NOT RECOMMENDED”

Decent price and boxed for safe delivery
I have another sample of 70/30 teleprompter glass to compare this with and except for a thickness difference (this is thinner) the appearance and apparent reflectivity is the same. The listed 2mm thickness is correct; however the 0.8" thickness is obviously missing a zero and should be 0.08". I have had more expensive glass shipped to me sandwiched between two pieces of corrugated cardboard, which seems risky. But this Neewer glass comes superbly packed inside its own presentation box with 3/4" foam on all sides and when double-boxed would be difficult to imagine getting damaged in shipment. Protective film protects the sheet on both sides and the front- and rear-facing surfaces are clearly labeled, although text ghosting will be apparent if you end up getting it reversed. The square shape means that if a 16:9 widescreen monitor is viewed with the glass at exactly a 45 degree angle to the screen and the viewer's sight line the viewing aperture will have a little more height than width. This is fine because gives a little more margin for the vertical position of the viewer or allows use on displays with lower aspect ratio. The glass claims to be tempered, meaning that it must be used in the size provided and cutting to size should not be attempted. Seems like a good value for the price.

Nice optics and thick...
I'm not doing a newscast so I don't need a teleprompter. What I have been trying to do for a while is something called "pepper's ghost", an old school optical trick used since the old days for matte paintings and things like the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland. Window glass just doesn't cut it. This stuff is thick and sturdy and has great optical quality. I don't know the specifics but it really does what it's supposed to. It is not like a two-way mirror, it's just decent glass. The right angle and lighting and you could pull off some cool tricks old school style. It has a neutral color cast, something you don't notice until you compare it to ordinary glass from the hardware store. It is fairly thick with nice, safely finished edges. The thickness helps with mounting it with a spring clamp on a C-stand. (It's still glass -- it's not indestructible -- but it has some heft and it is not fragile as far as glass goes.)
