Black pepper(Piper nigrum) is a spice vine from India, and is currently cultivated in the whole world. Pipper nigrum grows into fruit from which the pepper is produced. The pepper has become the most popular spice used in all of the kitchens of the world, due to its characteristic and specific, burning taste. The Pepper is divided into three different types: black, white and green, depending on the ripeness of the harvested fruit. Black pepper is made from harvesting unripe fruit. It is then served when dried and fermented. White pepper is made from completely ripe fruit. The taste of white pepper is much more mild. Green pepper is made from unripe, marinated fruit. Interesting fact: The sale of the pepper spices is 20% of the overall sale income of all of the spices in the world! It has been used right from the ancient times: it was found in the mummy of Ramzes II z XIII BC. It was so expensive in the Middle Ages, that it was even used as a currency.

Don’t buy from this seller - pepper vine was covered in scale insects
Vine looked good when it arrived but on closer inspection I found several scale insects on the underside of the leaves and on the stem.Even though I carefully removed all I could find, a few weeks on the plant is covered with scale insect crawlers ( babies) so I must have missed some ( they are quite hard to see on the stem sometimes) as I grow lots of exotic plants in my greenhouse I am really concerned about this. The writing on the packaging the plant came in indicated that it came from Eastern Europe so I am also worried that a new pest could have been introduced into the uk. I do not recommend buying plants from this seller
