You get to know and love Rosman’s compatriots as the setting shifts from the wild ...
A very well written account of the war from an autobiographical perspective. There’s an underlying feeling of honesty and vulnerability, lacking the typical embellishment or exaggeration common in the genre, and the perspective is refreshing. You get to know and love Rosman’s compatriots as the setting shifts from the wild nights at Camp Pendleton to the war torn streets of Ramadi, Iraq. It isn’t all hijinx and battle however, the book is surprisingly sober at times, and interspersed with hard gained wisdom that can only come from those who have intimately experienced the horrors of war.All in all it’s a great read, And you feel yourself growing alongside Rosman, experiencing new things and making tough decisions side by side with the author.

Great smooth read that is over too soon
This is an honest open ended story that leads the reader alongside Rosman and his experiences. Not overly jarggoned like Tom Clancy’s fiction or a collection superhuman feats of summarized special operations, this book is perfect for a normal human being to pick up and get an idea what this guy and his buddies went through. The author’s tone, as he tells about his four years in the Marine Corps, is set as if he just wants to share his experiences of his time spent. Set apart from other military books I have read, this one is the most humanizing book about the standard issue Marine. It also has fat chicks.

A gripping account of modern war fare and the reality of the impact of losing friends in combat!
Reading Jason’s account of what happened to our brothers in Ramadi has helped me understand the gravity of the sacrifice. He does an outstanding job at keeping the reader drawn in to the moment of being “boot dropped” into the battalion and then into combat as a young Marine. He gives a great perspective from a new Marine under fire and what the trust factor every Marine has with the brothers he serves beside. I applaud him for being able to put his experiences on paper so that people around the world can get a small glimpse of what being a Marine infantry warrior is about. You kept it real and unsensored brother! May the sacrifices of our friends never be forgotten! Thank you for your service !!! Semper Fidelis... Sgt Garza ...

"Unfortunately, this is a true story"
"Unfortunately, this is a true story"Jason tells a side of the story that you won't normally see in a military book. His story will take you though four long years that can't end fast enough, the friendships made and lost forever, and what life for a Marine Corps Infantryman is like. This is not a story of heros but a story of average pepole doing things that are far from average.

A unique perspective on a pivotal time in US military history.
Not written by a commander or a journalist observer, this is the story not usually told. It is known that experiences vary wildly during a four-year enlistment in the United States Marine Corps infantry. This book is set at the beginning of the occupation phase of the Iraq campaigns. The author chronicles the changes and challenges of a small unit in Ramadi as the city erupts in violence and then a routine deployment punctuated by tragedy. The story doesn't end with a battle but rather the reality of life in the infantry after combat.

A REAL war story
Extremely engaging account of the physchological and harrowing physical effects of serving your country while being too young and grossly underpaid. Rosman takes you on his journey of motivated high school student looking for adventure to a young man fighting for his country. His writing is full of humor and detailed accounts of what it’s really like working for the most powerful military in the world. Some details will absolutely shock you. From the exceptionally written intense battles and hilarious stories of him and his Marine buddies, one thing does make you think, this guy maybe should have gone to college.

An Incredibly Authentic and Captivating Story
I couldn't put this book down and read it in two days. A very honest and personal account of a kid turned marine in a very short time and how he dealt with, what for many of us is, the unthinkable. It's an easy read that you will take you through moments of humor, sadness, intrigue, and valor. This book is incredibly authentic and will leave you with a new perspective when thinking about war. Of all of the heroic war stories I've read, this book resonated the most because it's about average, every day people thrust into a situation doing extraordinary things to survive. I was often reminded of the beauty of humanity, and how brotherhood and taking care of the person next to you is the only thing that matters at the end of the day. Buy this book. You won't regret it.

A Candid and Honest Memoir
A sincere memoir and a personable view of the military experience that is candid and honest. Jason Rosman provides readers an unembelished true story that at times offends and shocks but also examines the human experience and the impact of a young persons decision to serve in the military. A tale that both those on the left and right side of the political spectrum can appreciate through the human aspect of war that is many times forgotten.

I’d buy Jason a beer.
I’m an avid reader of military non fiction of all genres. This book is one of those rare books, a very honest, no frills, Infantrymans account of his generations war that seems to encapsulate the greater story of that war. This is the tale of the authors four years in the USMC which included two tours of Iraq. I like the authors writing style, whilst the obvious focus of the book is on his operational tours, he includes in the story enough of his other four years service to allow the reader to view the tours in context. His honesty is refreshing, and his portraits of his fellow Marines both positive and negative. Show his keen eye for detail and above all an analytical trait that unwinds their varied motivations. His pride in the USMC is as evident as his frustrations with its dogmatic machinations. As the title states. I’d love to buy Jason a beer.

This has to be one of the best books I have ever read what a emotional rollercoaster. One moment I'm crying with laughter the next I'm holding back tears of sadness totally shocked trying to process what i have just read. The writer did such a fantastic job with this I'm really impressed! I wish I could wipe it from my memory and read it all over again. A truly gripping read
