Very happy with the results on my LOUD rescue dog
I adopted a six-year-old beagle/pit mix from the local shelter who, I quickly learned, has isolation anxiety. His go-to method when alone is to howl, bark, and whine, and he is LOUD. Living in an apartment, this was a problem. After the first few days, there was a very nice note taped to my door from an anonymous neighbor explaining that my dog whined, cried, and howled all day long.I was really stressed out over this. I have never had a dog who had a separation problem and wanted to keep him (as well as my neighbors) happy. I exercise him a lot and take him to doggy daycare twice a week. I know he maybe just needs time to adjust, but after three months, I needed a solution for the howling.I ordered this collar and set it to medium sensitivity (level 4) and the beep/vibrate setting. I still hadn't used it, but left one day to hear him howling as usual. Went right back in and put this on him and left again. Watched him on the webcam and there was no howling or barking. I have never tried the shock setting on him, since so many people in the reviews said they didn't even need it, with the vibrate being so effective. He still stares at the doorway practically the entire time I'm away, but this collar seems to have stopped the vocalizing. I've used it about five times now, including when I'm away at work all day. When it is on, he doesn't seem to howl or bark at all. I've never actually seen it triggered myself, since the howling and barking only happen when I am actually gone. But it is nice that when it is on tightly enough, and he is eating or doing another activity, it doesn't go off accidentally. You do have to get it rather tight or it will shift around, which they say could cause it to trigger randomly. I just got it tight enough to only put a finger or two through, just so it doesn't shift. He doesn't seem uncomfortable at all with it on.I'm really happy with the results so far!

Nope, don't buy it.. keep looking
This thing goes off when my dog scratches, runs in the yard, plops down on the ground, plays with the other dog.. and sometimes... on a rare occasion.. it even goes off when he barks, which turns into him barking at the noise the collar makes. If I had it on any tighter it would have choked him out, so thats not it. Its just not very good and now my window to return has expired. I tried it for a month and a half and followed all of the instructions (which aren't very clear regarding the levels, is 1 the most sensitive or 7, when you say levels what are you talking about exactly, the device’s trigger mechanism to my dogs volume (input) or the intensity of the sound/vibration it makes when triggered (output). I tried all the levels and didn't see a difference so I can't make sense of it) and the shock is just too intense.. I tried it and I couldn't take it myself. Waste of $$ that I could have spent on an alternative.

MAJOR DESIGN FLAW! Shocks dog again just for yelping at being shocked!
MAJOR DESIGN FLAW!!I would have given this collar a 5 in terms of quality for the price except for one HUGE problem that all pet owners should be made aware of.When your dog barks, it gets a warning beep. If it barks again, it gets a longer warning beep. If it barks a third time, it gets a long warning beep and then a quick shock. The problem is, the shock will startle them, which can cause your dog to yelp. Because there is no cool down period between corrections, the yelping will also trigger another beep and shock, which will trigger another yelp, which will trigger another shock! This is NOT OK. These should be designed well enough that the response to a correction does not cause another correction. There needs to be a longer period of time between corrections so that this snowball effect doesn't happen. My poor dog got over excited at someone driving my the house and what should have been a couple of barks and a quick correction, turned into a somewhat traumatic experience as the collar was correcting the yelp that the dog made because of the collar shock over and over!I can only give this 2 stars because at this point the only thing we can use is the vibrate setting, which only slightly works now because they react to the beep

Not a reliable or consistent training tool.
I liked the concept and the way the collar is suppose to,perform. It's a good quality item. Unfortunately, the activation was very inconsistent. Sometimes it would be activated by a bark and then the same level bark didn't cause it to trigger. I followed the directions as to how the collar was suppose to fit. I think it was confusing my dog. He was aware, when the collar worked, that his barking triggered something uncomfortable to his throat. But when he barked at the same level and intensity again and it doesn't set off the vibration or mild shock, the message is "it doesn't happen every time I bark so I think I will take my chances. I reluctantly set the collar to the highest settings. I'm glad it did not make him yelp or appear to be causing unnessasary pain. The highest setting may have been effective if the collar consistently went off everytime he barked. I expected more.
