FRYE are my new favorite shoes!
These are great shoes! I was so happy with this pair of FRYE James Oxfords I just got a pair of Bennett Oxfords. They both fit well and look good, I would certainly get another pair of either when I need to replace them. Very comfortable right out of the box. Well-made, solid materials, I'm looking forward to enjoying them for a long time. The leather has a nice texture to it - not thin and wrinkly, not polished smooth, it looks like a good natural finish. As far as fit, I have narrow feet, and most "medium" width shoes today are made to a wider "average". My feet either squeeze in to the heel-and-toe length to have a comfortable fit on the side, or the next half-size up is a comfortable length but has too much space on the side. 10 1/2 in FRYE shoes is just right!

too low and narrow constricting fit
I've always worn a 7 1/2 regular comfortably, but these shoes (as well as the leather sneaker) were very constricting. The length was perfect, but the shoe was much too narrow and the height so restricting that I felt that to keep them on would blister my toe knuckles.

Great shell Cordovan shoes
I ordered two pairs to get one that I liked. The first pair had some blemishes, but the second was more or less perfect. These shoes aren't cheap, but the additional quality over typical FRYE shoes is evident and their Shell Cordovan comes from Horween which is unheard of at this price point. Horween shell is almost aself healing material--you can work out scratches and scrapes with a little work. Rocado shell isn't as good (though shinki shell is). The cigar color is also stunning. The leather soles are thicker too for their cordovans, the stitching cleaner too. Unlike other I Fryes these hold up in quality vs. Allen Edmond's shells and aren't too far behind Alden's shells.Basically for 2/3rd the price of shell seconds from other brands you get an amazing shoe. Fantastic buy. Even at full price you could worse.

rock solid
This shoe is rock solid. No, really, it's rock solid. During the week or so it took to break them in I found them to be unforgiving; the soles are almost completely leather which makes walking noisy (think what a cowboy boot sounds like) and slippery until they're broken in. Initially it felt/sounded like I strapped on wooden clogs. My only complaint on quality is that the shoes' heals are about 1/8" taller than the front bottom surface. So when I'm sitting with weight on the heals, the front of my feet are slightly off the ground which leads to some tapping of the foot. I think that will go away as the shoe breaks in more. However, now I'm very happy with my purchase. The leather is very thick, the laces appear like they'll last longer than most laces, and they look good. I can see keeping these for many years and I'll buy another pair in a different color when they go on sale again.2/11/2012 update:The shoes are holding up very well even though I've worn them most days but one of them has developed a squeak. Unless I can find a way to fix this I won't be wearing them anymore.9/28/2013 update:Still like these shoes even though the occasionally squeak. They've held up incredibly well with just a little bit of care. I can see myself getting these re-soled when the time comes. I'll opt for a rubber sole though so they're not as loud on hard surfaces and not as slick on wet surfaces.

Bad soles mean bad souls
I purchased these shoes on June 26th, 2013. Today is September 30th, 2013.The soles have already ruptured after just 3 months of wear, and that's assuming I wore them everyday, which I did not.So here's my breakdown on the shoes...Pros:- They wear-in very fast. After a few weeks they really mold to your feet.- The inside is very snug and comfortable.- The color is amazing (I got the redwood finish). It's even more amazing as you wear them in.Cons:- The soles are not robust at all (mine burst open at just 3 months). As far as I'm concerned, a shoe with a bad sole is a shoe with a bad soul.Obviously I decided to write this review today because today is the day the shoes broke.Just because I've always bought Fry's and I genuinely liked these shoes while they lasted, I am giving them a very generous 3 stars. With that said, I will keep everyone updated on how Frye's service is when things go wrong...

Great Shoe
I bought a pair of Frye Arkansas boots last year, and I love wearing them every day. So when I needed a new pair of office/teaching shoes, I bought some more Fryes. I haven't had these very long, but I like them. They're nice looking, comfortable, and really well-made. The antique finish just looks grey, but it goes away with some polishing. They're a little spendy, but I predict they'll last long enough to justify the cost.

Two Stars
Sole is splitting at the seems. I expected more from Frye.

A perfect pair of shoes
These are just solid!!I enjoy wearing these shoes on a regular basis. They are more comfortable than any of my Allen Edmonds, and have a basic style that I find very refreshing and appealing.I have been searching for a classic, comfortable shoe that is well-made and exudes quality craftsmanship. My search has finally ended.I have both black and dark brown, and the leather quality is excellent for both.
