The ARRL Handbook for Radio Communications 2018 Softcover

I have been hungrily devouring the pages of this book since it arrive in the mail. From electronic fundamentals, to advanced radio DSP this book has it all. It's only 4 years out of date so I think it's still as valuable as the 2022 edition but at about a third of the price.

Great book. Still on the nice shiney paper. It weights over 5 lbs, like having a full sized dictoionary in your lap. If they made it much bigger, it would have to be broken into two separately bound books!No CDROM, are you kidding? Most new computers don't have CDROMs anymore. It does have coupon code to let you download it for free from the ARRL website, the whole book plus many extras. The handbook is the first I have bought in several years, and is really heavy on theory. It is still the "Ham Bible" as much as it ever was. Very Nice!

I used this book to prepare for both an Amateur Extra ham radio license and a first class commercial radiotelephone license. They have an amazing ability to explain the most technical subjects in an easy-to-understand way. I also bought other books specific to the exams. And yes, I passed all exams. But, I still like to have a copy of this book on my bookshelf and the included digital version on my desktop computer.

Great handbook. Every ham should have one. The content does not change a lot year to year. It is good to get a newer one every few years.

The ARRL has added a LOT of new material. I get a Handbook every four or five years, as the changes are small. The 2018 handbook has a lot of new material in it. I am glad I bought it. High quality images, good binding, and in general a very useful addition to the shack.

It's about time that the ARRL renamed this book the "Amateur Radio Encyclopeda". It's crammed full of information, but the hobby is so diverse now, with so much history, that it's impossible to go into any depth anymore. The book is a hefty tome, with lots of legacy information such as fundamental electricity theory, bipolar transistor circuit design and RF fundamentals, to more advanced subjects. But because there's so much theory behind all the past and current amateur radio technology they can't possibly go into any depth. It is no longer even a "reference". Everything in it is either fundamental design and theory or very high level overviews of the technology that's already behind by the time the book has made it through publishing.But that said, I still give it four stars because I've always appreciated the effort that goes into publishing these "handbooks". But these are definitely no longer "collector's editions".

Outstanding book for an amateur ham radio hobbyist or just an electronics hobbyist. Superbly written book. Great way to learn electronics and RF on your own !

Excellent resource. Found it technically substantial to help bring many concepts. Personally using it to bridge computer background with wireless as well as using as resource while preparing for Amateur Radio license. Authors did great job with readability (readers can understand) and technical coverage.

This book is amazing. Each and every electronics topics has been written clearly. Presented in pedagogical order. It is really a good reference book for the people who want to learn electronics (both analog and digital) and also gives telecommunication related topics. Awesome book!

Vom Handbook habe ich in unregelmäßigen zeitlichen Abständen diverse Jahrgänge und es war mal wieder an der Zeit, einen neuen Jahrgang anzuschaffen. Die Lieferung über Amazon erschien mir einfacher als bei der ARRL direkt zu beziehen.

The ARRL handbook is constantly evolving to cover new technologies, I tend to buy a new copy about every decade. A great reference book for the hobbyist or radio professional. I still learn things from my 1961 copy!

I teach physics and maths at high school and know a thing or two about decent textbooks. So if you want a book that is technically sound, written by people who love their work and even more so they are passionate about their hobby, then this is the book for you. Whenever I've needed to reference something or refresh my knowledge on a particular topic, I have always borrowed a copy that is until recently, so when I saw a new copy at the Amazon price, I jumped at it. I am very happy with my ARRL handbook and will treasure it for many years. The ARRL team are the best in the business as far as I'm concerned and I can claim suffrage from a load of dull outmoded texts until I found an affordable personal copy of ARRL's Handbook for Radio Communications.

Getting back into electronic as a hobby. This is a great starting point for review. You should have a notebook with you for practice.
