Lost Interiors: Beauty in Desolation (Abandoned Places)

A beautiful book
Of all the 'abandoned places' books listed, I had chosen this particular title ages ago (Lost Interiors) and it has been patiently waiting in one of 'wish lists' for so long that I thought I should finally treat myself. It arrived today and it really is a gorgeous book. It is larger and heavier than I expected, really substantial.....with good quality, thick, shiny pages. It is so well-illustrated with a lot of photographs across a double-spread, but there does seem to be plenty of interesting text as well.I can see why these types of books are categorised as 'art photography.' The places themselves are amazing and you really want to be there, and the way they are photographed is so beautifully done that you can almost feel that you are there. Lovely.

Great imagery, slight lack of context and detail of each of the photos
This is overall a good book - I just feel there are better ones available than this. The photos are intriguing and interesting, but in many cases we only get to learn of where the photo was taken, but not the full context of the reasons for the location's present state. There of course has to be a balance of detail here given the great variety covered by the book, but more emphasis on facts and history and less whimsical statements would help that process. The whimsical prose does jar at times because that can be left to the reader's own imagination.I do not mean to be too critical but the authors should avoid banging the anti-capitalism drum too much as resources are mismanaged in all economic systems, and less so in free market ones because of incentives. I did find the underhand praise to the USSR communist regimes that murdered millions to be misplaced and ill-informed. Stick to the topic of telling us about the place, its history and keep your own opinions to yourself.

Best book of photographs on "abandoned " theme . Inspirational !!
This book is amazing! So many thought provoking photos . I bought this for my daughter who is doing photography for her advanced level art qualification and this "abandoned " theme is her passion. The photos and descriptions have already really inspired her. Thank you !

I love everything about this book.
What really sets this apart from other books in my extensive collection of urbex photography is the large number of huge spectacular double page spreads, any of which would make beautiful posters (or high-end artistic prints, if you want to be a bit more snobbish.) The detail, layout and quality is equal to that of books which are normally twice this price. The photographer has a gift for capturing the moment when the lighting is just perfect.
