Unique volume on Africana
As a collector of books on the golden age of African safari's, as well as visitor to Zimbabwe, SA, and Tanzania, I appreciate the vast amount of work that went into assembling this volume, giving anywhere from a brief to fairly thorough biography of hundreds of the men and women who were part of the exploration and colonizing of Africa from the 1800's through WW2. I've read many of the well-known books by some of these hunters and explorers, and to have their bios in one volume is quite valuable, as well as a great reference for new books to seek out.The only negatives I see are the quality of the actual volume which isn't great- very thin paper stock, which worries me as I expect to spend many hours pouring over this book. I would probably have enjoyed seeing more illustrations, as I understand the author has one of the largest libraries of Africana in existence, and likely has access to thousands of great pictures. That aside, it's a great reference book for anyone with an interest in the subject.

A Priceless Resource for African Hunting & Adventure Enthusiasts
"Legends of the African Frontier" is packed with information and photographs of some of Africa's most unforgettable characters circa 1800-1945. The book is a very accessible resource with entrants arranged alphabetically. The entries range from the very brief to those running several pages. Entry length was determined by the amount of available information uncovered in exhaustive research by the author, David Chandler. I read this book cover to cover and have referred back to it many times while reading through my hunting and adventure library. Also, it was possible to compile a wish list of books written by various entrants as their entries included the names of books they had authored. Enjoyable, informative, and a priceless resource for African hunting & adventure enthusiasts.
