This exquisite hanging picture frame is made from the inner bark of the sustainable mulberry tree, a rapidly growing tree common in Southeast Asia. The art of making mulberry paper is ancient and the papermakers have been handing down this craft for generations. The fibers of the mulberry bark are longer than traditional paper making pulp. This makes mulberry paper stronger and more durable than most other papers while remaining extremely lightweight. The longer fibers also provide texture and dimension not found in other papers. The mulberry paper is earth friendly and acid free. How to make batik painting... wax is melted down. Using special batik brushes, wax is then delicately applied in various designs on the mulberry paper. When the wax is dried, the inlaid designs are then painted with various colors. The wax acts as a divide to control the flow of dye. The painted paper is hung up to dry. When dry, the wax is removed leaving just the painted paper. Imported.
