4 Pushers and Complete American Mahjong Set with Burgundy Bag, 166 Tiles

This is a good, solid Mahjong set which will accommodate American, Classical Chinese (British Mahjong Assn. rules), and maybe a few other styles of playing.this fascinating game. The tiles are durable, if slippery when stacked, and the set comes with combined pushers and racks, which are very useful. The dice are small, but that's typical. My only reservation is an aesthetic one: I'd rather have a more valuable kind of tile inset into bamboo, but that's a ridiculous expectation at this price. So this is a good value at a reasonable price. You could spend a lot, lot more, but first find out if you'll keep playing. As my teacher says, "Go, Mahjong!"

I have been wanting to learn to play mah jongg since watching my grandmother and her friends play when i was very young.I finally bit the bullet and took a class; and I am hooked!After visiting the american mah jongg website and reading about various sets and what is needed, I spent a couple of days and several hours researng and shopping for best quality and value.I wound up setting up a spreadsheet (yep, i am one of those people) to be able to compare sets and prices, for the best overall deal.My pain, your gain.After sifting through the tedious details of exactly what was included in each set, tile sizes, whether they were engraved, etc (and shame on the DOZENS of sellers that show pictures of complete sets with racks, pushers, protective covers, betting chips, dice, extra tiles, etc only to read in fine print that that is being sold with just the tiles!!!), there was a clear winner, by at least $30.00.At $59.99, This particular set was far and away the best value for one of the few sets that included absolutely EVERYTHING you need to play the game, good quality components, and all you need to transport the game, as well as organize and protect your components. The next nearest set I could find or make on my own that had everything was $90.00.The case and protective sleeves are a neoprene type fabric, nothing exceptional, but the case and sleeves are well constructed, very soft, and do an excellent job of protecting and transporting your game. In addition, the case is about 3 pounds lighter than a metal case and won't dent or scratch. It flexes, so it is very comfortable to carry on shoulder.Pay attention when opening your case and remember the order in which components are packed. If you repack in exactly the same order, you will have plenty of room for everything, along with your card, notes, and i even have a couple of mahjongg books in mine now. (I am noting this as i read reviews that said components didn't fit in bag, which they certainly do, with ease)I love games, and truly appreciate good quality and organization, so this sets gets five well-earned stars.

I almost sent this set back, but found a work around. The bag, though a very nice padded bag, is too small and almost impossible to zip. The pushers must be removed from the racks to get the racks to fit in the bag.The bag contains:An excellent tile set with an extra set of 8 flowers, two spare jokers and 4 blank tiles. The back of the tiles are white.Very sturdy pushers.Good racks that could be a bit sturdier.Two blah tile trays with no lids.Two excellent padded wraps for the tiles and the racks.Three quite small dice. An indicator that can be set to E,1,2,3 or 4. Red, white, yellow, and blue betting discs. There is a zipped compartment in the bag to hold these and the 14 extra tiles.My workaround for the bag problem was to buy a very nice tile bag for $12 from madaboutmahjongg.com (Amazon doesn't carry tile bags). By leaving out the two tile trays and one of the wraps I was able to get the bag to close and zip fairly easily with the racks at the bottom, the tile bag next, and the pushers on top. This would not work if the pushers weren't so solidly made.Since the going rate for a set of tiles alone is about $59, this set is a good buy and, after a game, it is much easier to sweep the tiles into a tile bag than to fiddle around fitting them into trays.

I have been playing Mah Jongg with several friends who have very nice sets costing well over $100. I wanted my own set, but desired one that was less heavy than ones I had seen in heavy, suitcase style cases. The first set I purchased came with the racks and pushers as one unit, I returned it as one of the combined racks arrived broken and I felt the quality and design was flawed compared to the sets my friends had. I spent considerable time studying the many sets offered on Amazon and finally decided on this one as it appeared to have the same style of racks and independant pushers that my friends have. I was not disappointed. The soft bag is very light, the tiles are of a nice size and finish and the racks and pushers are the same quality as those I've seen in my friends more expensive sets. As others have posted I did not find the dice to be small (my friends sets have smaller dice). There is ample room in the bag for all the parts. My only complaint is that the instruction booklet could be more informative, but there is a lot of info and instruction online to play Mah Jongg so that is a fairly minor issue. On my computer the color of the bag looked more red but in reality it is more of a deep rose color. I am happy with this set and highly recommend it.

Price was good and quality high.

This is a great mahjong set. It's similar to several of the sets that people bring to our Saturday Chinese mahjong sessions. There are separate padded wrappers for the tile boxes, racks and pushers - this may be excessive, but better too much padding than too little. The tiles are a good size and it's easy to tell what they are. I chose this one partly because of the price, but also because the pushers easily detach from the racks. My only wish is that the bag was a little bigger. It's a tight fit for all the parts along with their padded wrappers.I think it was a good choice - I won the first two games we played with my new set!

Includes everything but the betting chips, which we don't use anyway. This set has the pegs on the pushers for the chips.
