Thick layer of foam makes it feel very safe.
I bought it for my daughter's ice skating lessons. I was a bit put off initially by the helmet's utilitarian looks and considered buying a Giro Launch, which looks fancier. On close inspection however I decided to stick with Traverse. The reason: level of protection. Giro helmets look great partially thanks to thin foam, while Traverse helmet has 2 cm thick layer all around. It makes it look a bit bulky on a small kid's head but this thing feels indestructible, unlike Giro Launch, and that makes it a clear choice. After a while I even started to appreciate its looks.I'm not sure if this is the case for all colors but our matte white is a real scratch magnet. Forget hitting ice or rink board, if you put it down on a hard surface, a carpet or even breath on it wrong it will get a scratch. Usually a sponge with some dish soap fixes the problem but doing it constantly is annoying - one star less.Edit after 2 years:It was a great buy for a small kid. My daughter fell twice or thrice on her face since then and the thick front of the helmet hit the ice first, protecting her face and nose - she didn't even have a scratch. Fine, I'll upgrade it to 5 stars.

Most Durable and Safe Helmet I've Ever Used
This helmet is a lifesaver. I landed on my head off a 90 foot jump and survived with only minor bleeding in the brain. After returning home from the hospital, I expected to see my helmet dented and unusable, but after further inspection only a few scrapes and scratches seem to be visible. This helmet has taken a beating and still seems to stay intact. This is the cheapest helmet I have ever purchased which worried me at first, but after use it has proven to be the most durable and safest helmet I have ever purchased.
