I've had this for a couple of weeks and have been testing it off and on. if you're primarily looking to pickup sound from in front of you, the older Sony digital hot shoe mics are better in my opinion. But the pickup patterns of this unit are really great. And my favorite has to be the stereo pickup, with anything in front recorded to one track and the shooter's voice recorded to the other track. That is a brilliant idea. If the older digital hot shoe mics from Sony had this, it would be ideal. The muting of sound from different angles (areas outside the pickup pattern) works pretty well. All in all, this is a great mic for run and gun shooting to get a little bit better sound than the camera's built in mic, but I do wish the front and rear stereo pickup pattern was narrower for each of the two pickups.
