Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO) Trout-Panfish Lightweight Portable Fast Action Freshwater Fishing Rod

Having recently retired, I do a LOT of fishing. The sensitivity of this rod is amazing; you can feel a 1/32 oz jig bouncing off things along the bottom with no problem. So far The biggest fish I’ve landed with this include a 21” rainbow in strong current and a 17” Smallmouth in calm water (on 4 lb mono line). It’s certainly exciting bringing in fish with such a sensitive rod. I was afraid the rainbow might break the rod, but I make good use of the spinning reel drag and land my fish with a net. I like that there are no ceramic guide inserts to lose, just smooth stainless guides. REALLY light and well made. Very satisfied so far after about 15 days of fishing.

This rod is very sensitive so even light bites are easy to detect. The rod has some real backbone so setting the hook is easy and works very well. Highly recommend for those light bitting perch.

The rod is great for what its made for. Ultralight and fast action. Lots of fun on the lake with small catches The new model is also lighter than previous models. Overall its a great rod from the manufacture. I wish Amazon would change their method of shipping in a box to a shipping tube or at least train the packagers better. This rod i order was damaged and had to request a replacement which takes time.

This rod looks awesome and is light!!! Guides are great, light too but looks heavy duty. But for being ultralight, this rod is stiff on the lower end. It feels more like light rod and extra fast tip. I bought the 7ft. I cast a 1/16 jig compare to a st croix panfish rod, it was about 2-5 ft shorter every time. I feel this rod will be best use with 1/8 jigs if you plan to cast far. But the main reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the reel seat, I paired it with an exceler 1000, as you can see on the picture there is a gap on the reel seat on the top, that edge is a sharp angle, it’s very noticeable and very uncomfortable to hold. Other than that this rod feels balanced and is great overall! Unfortunately that reel seat was enough to deter me away from this rod, I will be returning it back.

TFO trout panfish rods are awesome!!! Best rod for the money. They are shipped in cardboard box not a heavy cardBoard tubes like they should be. Mine arrived horribly damaged. I would NOT order if this is how they will be shipped.

This is my favorite ultralight rod on the market by far. I have the 6’ the 6’6 and the 7ft. The rod is super sensitive and casts 1/64 oz jigs really far. Use it with a 1000 reel and 2lb line with a trout magnet or mule jig and you will catch EVERYTHING. The way this rod looks is so sick and i don’t think there is an ultralight rod on the market that looks better. I like to use it with Shimano Sedona 1000, Daiwa legalis lt 1000, or Pflueger President 25.

This rod is awesome, matched with Shimano Miravel reel and 2lb mono. This delivers quick response and sensitivity.

Purchased the 6’6 light TFO rod, paired it with a BPS 1500 reel. Great set-up for panfish and smaller bass. Perfect set-up for throwing light to ultralight (1/32 oz - 1/64 oz) lures. Time will tell re: durability, but the rod appears well made, feels great in hand and is money well spent (IMO) for the price.
