La Bumba Spicy Calabrian Chili Pepper Spread

About seven years ago I visited the Cinque Terre region in Italy and had this amazingly spicy “la bomba” sauce and I have been searching for it or anything like it ever since. This is it! I’m so happy! I had almost given up after buying several jars of products that were trying to do the same thing, and I almost didn’t try this one, but I’m so so so glad I did. It is DELICIOUS. And the packaging is just adorable. This would make a great gift for someone who likes spicy condiments. Or just for yourself. I will definitely be ordering again. And again and again. Seriously so good!!!!

Every source I’ve found calls this “bomba,” not “bumba,” and every recipe from Calabria uses olive oil. They did get the traditional packaging right… sort of. This is not a bad tasting relish, and it does use real Calabrian peppers, but the taste would have been much better had they used a good quality olive oil instead of the flavorless oil they used.

Well this went horribly wrong as "La Bomba" did indeed blow up. Can't review due to broken glass in the sauce.

Okay, this spread is delicious! I saw other reviewers were trying it on crusty bread, so I got my hands on some, and wow! It's so good. It's sort of like a very spicy bruschetta spread. It will definitely be too spicy for some people, but if you like heat I would definitely recommend trying this. I can't wait to try it on an Italian deli sandwich. The packaging is super cute and would make a great gift for the spice lover in your life.

Cute packaging... my mother-in-law really thought you had to light the fuse or something. We put it on hard bread to make bruschetta, and we all liked it a lot, but the spice seemed a little unnecessary. I've never understood the link between heat and flavor. You can have tons of flavor without heat. To me, heat just ruins the experience. But I know I'm in the minority on this. Great, quality product, but I'm not sure I would buy it again.

La Bumba Spicy Calabrian Chili Pepper Spread is a very versatile condiment/sauce. One of the best uses for this spread is to spread it on the crusty bread of an Italian deli hero! Don't overdo it, because this spicy pepper spread is hot! It just brings that sandwich up a notch.I also love mixing a bit in ricotta. The Ricotta takes a bit of the heat away but adds a delightful flavor. I add a bit of hot water, mix it and pour it over tortellini! Just delicious!!
