Keychron Q6 Max Review – A Heavy-Hitting Nostalgic Powerhouse
The Keychron Q6 Max is an absolute beast of a keyboard that instantly transports me back to the golden era of IBM metal keyboards from my middle school days. Right out of the box, the full-metal construction exudes durability, giving it a weighty, premium feel that ensures it stays firmly in place on my desk—no accidental slides here unless you're deliberately moving it.Typing Experience & SwitchesEquipped with Gateron Banana switches, the typing experience is smooth and incredibly satisfying. The tactile feedback is reminiscent of old-school IBM buckling spring keyboards, though with a slightly more modern and, admittedly, louder twist. The sound is deep, crisp, and borderline obnoxious, making it a potential nightmare in open office environments—but for home use, it's a dream come true for mechanical keyboard enthusiasts.Performance & CustomizationSince switching to the Q6 Max, my typing speed has noticeably improved at least 10% increase. The hot-swappable PCB makes it easy to swap out switches if you ever feel like experimenting. QMK/VIA support means extensive customization, from remapping keys to setting up macros effortlessly. The programmable knob is a handy addition, whether you're adjusting volume, scrolling, or fine-tuning other controls.Connectivity & RGBWith Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless, and USB-C wired options, the connectivity is seamless, catering to Mac, Windows, and Linux users alike. The RGB backlighting is bright and vibrant, though it can be turned off or adjusted to more subtle effects if you prefer a more understated look.Final ThoughtsIf you're looking for a heavy-duty, nostalgia-packed keyboard with modern features, the Keychron Q6 Max is a stellar choice. However, its loud switches might not be ideal for office environments unless you work alone or have a soundproof space. Overall, this keyboard is a masterpiece for mechanical keyboard lovers who appreciate both function and form.Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)✅ Pros:✔️ Solid metal build – heavy, sturdy, and premium✔️ Fantastic tactile typing experience with banana switches✔️ QMK/VIA support for deep customization✔️ Multiple connectivity options (Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz, USB-C)✔️ Hot-swappable PCB for switch customization✔️ Smooth, programmable knob❌ Cons:❌ Loud key switches – not ideal for shared workspaces❌ Weighty – not the most portable optionWould I recommend it? Absolutely—if you love old-school IBM keyboards and want a modern mechanical upgrade, the Q6 Max is a dream come true!

Keychron Q6 Max Review – My Endgame Keyboard
The Keychron Q6 Max is, without a doubt, my endgame keyboard. Coming from a $30 “mechanical” gaming keyboard, the difference is night and day—this is what a real mechanical keyboard should feel like. The full aluminum chassis gives it a premium, rock-solid feel, and the gasket-mounted design makes typing incredibly satisfying with just the right amount of flex. The hot-swappable switches add a layer of customization, but even stock, they feel smooth and responsive.I use it wired-only, so I can’t speak to the Bluetooth or 2.4GHz wireless, but it’s great knowing the options are there if I ever need them. The wired experience has been flawless—zero lag, ultra-responsive keystrokes, and a typing feel that makes every keystroke satisfying.Compared to my old keyboard, this is a massive upgrade. No more hollow keystrokes or mushy feel or squeaky keys—just pure mechanical bliss. If you want a high-quality, customizable, and premium keyboard, the Q6 Max is absolutely worth it.Final Verdict: 10/10 – This is the one.

Well worth it
I'm not sure why I waited so long to buy a quality keyboard given I spend most of my day at a computer writing software. Take it from me, don't wait. This is the best typing experience I've ever had without any kind of customizations. As others have written, it weighs enough to be used as a formidable weapon. I'm sure it will last me many years to come. The experience out of the box (at least with the banana switches) is well worth the cost. Being able to modify and swap key caps, switches, etc. is a huge bonus. Software configuration under Linux with the Keychron launcher webapp was simple, though it did require some the addition of some simple udev rules (readily found with a quick google search). Switching between multiple computers with a USB switch hasn't been an issue. I've honestly not taken advantage of the Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz wireless, yet. I don't think I'll be lugging this thing around too much, but it's nice to have the option if that becomes convenient for cable management in the future.

Great Keyboard, Excellent with Mods
A solid keyboard out of the box that gets substantially better with some additional foam in the base. Banana switches feel excellent to type on, but also suffer from slight key instability compared to other switches on the market. Ultimately very happy, as after modification this is the best keyboard i've used.

Feels so good to type on, you will question why you waited so long to buy
Yes, I have this Keychron, and its the first true mechanical keyboard I've had in a decade. After seeing so many name brand keyboards go bad, and need replacing after sometimes less than a year of use. This product is solid, made of great material, each key so lovingly styled that you'd think your fingers are having a vacation spa visit with each key press. The blue tooth, wireless, and wired both work extremely well. I just can't rave enough about my Keychron.

Looks amazing! Works great except for the bluetooth dropouts
I love this keyboard so much! But the only problem I can think of is that the keyboard randomly disconnects from Bluetooth on my Mac, and I will need to turn it off and back on to repair it. Annoying, yes. I hope they fix this in a firmware update.

Yes, it’s worth the money.
This thing is a beauty. Extremely well crafted. We use for general typing and Excel spreadsheets in a home office. Really enjoy the key press feel and sound, and the stability and substantial heft just feels right. I like the 3 ways you can choose to connect to the PC better than I thought I would. I’m using it wired so I can use the key programmer to experiment making a few keys helpful in Excel . It comes configured for Mac users but they provide Windows keys that took just a few minutes to swap. Just slide the keyboard switch from Mac to Windows to start.Did I mention heft? You could club a burglar and it wouldn’t be the keyboard that had damage.
