The Helix skimmer also has an optimum fill height that is just 2" from the top of the skimmer, allowing you to have a clean pond edge and a fuller-looking pond.Effective OperationThe Helix Pond Skimmer has a round strainer basket that is modeled after swimming pool skimmer baskets. This time-tested, familiar technology creates a helical (spiral-shaped) flow that effectively traps debris. The rigid basket is tight-fitting so that debris cannot bypass the basket. The basket measures 8" in diameter x 8" tall, but the helical flow compresses debris into the basket, giving it a higher effective capacity.Fish-Friendly DesignThe Helix Pond Skimmer does not have a weir door at the entrance, like many skimmers do. These weir doors can cause fish to become trapped inside the skimmer. By avoiding this common feature, the Helix Pond Skimmer is safer for fish. The floating weir inside the leaf basket sits right at the top of the water level, reducing the chance that fish will swim inside.Versatile OptionsThe Helix Pond Skimmer features large, flat side panels that can support an autofill valve and/or an overflow pipe (not included). This skimmer package includes a 5500gph Anjon Big Frog EcoDrive BFED5500 pump and a Helix Quick Release Discharge Kit (Check Valve Assembly) for easy pump removal during maintenance and winterization.
