Platypus Meta Collapsible Water Bottle for Camping and Hiking

Great bottle; the way it goes together makes it super easy to use and then to wash. However, I've been unable to collapse the bottle completely. When empty, if the lid is not sealed, you can certainly squash it under things in a backpack or other bag, so still great for travel. It also stands up on its bottom properly whether full or empty, so it doesn't need to be hung from something. The rigidity that makes it harder to collapse makes it a fully functional bottle for use in regular settings.

No filter

Incredibly smart design and I'm screws in the middle in case you want to add large chunks of ice to it and you can't get it down the drinking hole. The drinking hole has a cap that closes with only 1/4 of one turn that's fantastic.

After a week of use, something has poked a very tiny hole in the bottom of the silicone and the bottle leaks very slowly. I was thrilled with the bottle at first; I loved that after one wash, the bottle didn't change the flavor of the water, that I was able to add ice easily using the middle opening, and that compacting it as I drank left more room in my bag for stuff I picked up over the course of the day. The bright color was fun too. But after using it for a week while day-tripping around Italy, on the flight home the bottle leaked all over my backpack. I thought at first it was my fault, that I hadn't sealed it properly, but when I left the bottle sitting on my desk at work the next day and it left a small puddle, I squeezed it and saw the drip at the bottom.Verdict: silicone was a clever idea, but not a great material for a bottle that is intended to be thrown in a backpack.Found product from Wirecutter review.

I bought this based on Wirecutter's recommendation for a collapsible water bottle for travel. It collapses well enough once you figure out the trick to it. With the two parts connected and the top cap unscrewed, you sort of have to force the flexible bottom part into the rigid top part. Once you get the very bottom of the bottle crammed in there, it should stay fairly securely.I normally trust Wirecutter's recommendations but they got this one wrong. The problem I had with this bottle is that it made water taste like the silicone or whatever material it was made out of. I planned to use it for a two week trip but gave up on using it about halfway through because I could no longer stand the smell/taste and just reused some PET bottles that I picked up during my trip. Eventually, I simply abandoned this bottle at my destination to save space in my luggage and because I never planned to use it again.

My son is using this along with the filter while on a mission trip in Guatemala. He said it is working really well, and is pleased with it. I like that it is bigger than a lot of water bottles, however the filter is pretty large, which takes away some of the capacity for water. Be careful to note that when you see this on Amazon, the fact that it doesn't have the filter with it already is not prominently made known, so you have to buy the filter separately.

I think the negative reviews are accurate. But I am giving this 5 stars because I have severe arthritis in my hands and need something soft that is easy for me to pick up and keep a hold of. It can be difficult to screw off the top portion of the bottle itself. I use these 1 litre bottles on my saddle when I ride my horses and in the truck when I am driving. They are easy to clean.

The bottle was great, but it molded terribly and the stains wouldn't come out no matter what.

I was really excited for this water bottle since it’s a great colour and texture. I also thought the cup aspect would be cool, but in reality it’s a pain. Trying to open this water bottle one-handed while it’s in your lap just results in the cup part opening instead of the lid, and water pouring into your crotch. Even opening it with two hands, the lid leash doesn’t swivel properly so it makes it hard to get the lid fully unscrewed. Would not recommend this water bottle.

I’ve taken it on a couple hikes, works fine, no issues with leaking

I was looking for a portable water bottle I could take with me when I fly, to fill after security and avoid paying £££ for water. I already had some rigid plastic ones, but the complete inflexibility in terms of how much space they took up was getting to me; I tried one of the type that's just a floppy bag, but I felt like I was constantly at risk of slopping water in my face whenever I took a drink. This seemed like a nice compromise, and it is.The silicone part of the bottle squishes down satisfyingly (though you'll need a strap or sturdy rubber band to get it to stay compressed), but also keeps its form enough that I can stand it up and it will hold water, whether it's connected to the top the bottle or not. The rigid top third of the bottle makes it feel more secure to drink from, and can double as a separate small cup when detached from the silicone bottom.It doesn't leak at all, either at the connection between the silicone part and the rigid part or at the screw-top cap.In general, I'm very happy with my purchase and can already predict I will get a lot of use out of it.
