OK fror what it is
I mistakenly thought it was a RAID box, it isn't! Mea Culpa as I was in too much of a hurry buying it. They didn't advertise it as such, but the Amazon search for RAID array boxes, also threw this up with other genuine RAID boxes and it seemed like it was a good price. One of those moments you kick yourself for not paying attention... However, on the plus side there are software solutions, and I have used Windows "Storage Spaces" to provide a software pool for the five drive I have put in there amounting to a handy 10tb and it could handle up to 80gb. It’s fast enough, given that I have a mix of SSD, 5" HDD and 2.5" HDD. It’s also a good build and it was easy to install the individual drives. It has a cooling fan and an aluminium frame which is fairly essential in order to dissipate the heat. That said for what it is and its reliance on software solutions if you want to get all the drives to work together, it is a little OTT on the price… but I suspect it will last a long time so worth a buy if you are wanting one box to hold up to five drives with no hassle. I’m keeping mine!!

Update: I won't be getting another one failure on month 11 of 12. A bit too convenient...
UPDATE after 11 months, 16 January 2022.This device has now FAILED.I have some very expensive NAS HDD's and the fault seems to be power related. Five to 10 minutes after powering up it I can't access the drive array. As you can see in the photo the drives are all stuck on (pink lights) and only power cycling will make them re-set. When in standby the LED's are blueThese are some of the errors. Google search gives power supply problems as the cause. It seems to be power related either on the enclosure mother board and/or the external PSU as well.tag#0 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_TIME_OUT driverbyte=DRIVER_OKtag#0 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_ERROR driverbyte=DRIVER_OKNot sure it should fail with 4 weeks left on the warranty. At least Amazon are allowing a return & refund. Result and thanks to Amazon.2021:Update. It can be a bit noisy, (tray vibrations) but a piece of paper wedged under the tray stopped that. Now it's only fan noise.Would I have another? Yes.Remember, this is *not* a NAS and each drive shows up individually. I don't use it with windows (Linux) so I can't comment on the copy speeds between drives but it's s much quicker now than it was.
