Perfect first and potentially last laser
It took me a while to set this up but now that I am really getting used to it I like it more and more and would recommend it for use by beginners and more advanced as well. What I really love is how it makes me feel very safe. I would recommend getting things like the If2 and the fire suppression system for piece of mind but these are easy to use and add to the system. I love the things I can do with it and will probably get the 40watt laser head. The only wish I have is for a bigger work area as I want to do big projects. As long as you pay attention to thickness and use the right settings it will do the things you need without creating danger. I do feel people need to pay more attention to material type and make sure they understand the safety and practical lists of using diode lasers but that is more on the user than xTool. It literally has everything you need to get tstarted just take your time and do not skip the safety materials they are there for your benefit.

Watch tutorials
My best advice is to watch all the tutorials that they have, which will save you a lot of time and material. Once you set up the machine according to the tutorials, everything works wonderfully. I’ve never had a laser before and this one is indeed a user-friendly, laser, especially if you watch the tutorials otherwise it’s like a blind man walking in dark very happy with this machine very happy. My only regret is that I didn’t buy a 20 W. The pictures below of one of the projects that comes with the machine and these are the most beautiful tea candle holders. I’ve ever seen 26 parts to put together, but what a great result.

XTOOL - Very Nice!
Really nice piece of equipment. Well designed, not only the hardware build, but the thought put into the software to make ease of use. My only complaint is that it will not ship to my country with a 20W or 40W laser module. I had to settle for machine with a 10W module. It is very expensive to purchase a 40W module separately.

I kinda love this thing.
Easy to set up and easy to use. It’s almost paid for itself already. Definitely going to consider getting other laser modules and I’m glad that’s an option. Also, make sure you have proper ventilation. I smoked myself out the first time I used it. Have been primarily engraving on Gaboon ebony wood and it works well enough. Took a few times trying to determine the settings as Ebony is not within their predetermined material list. My suggestion would be to start slow, at low power, and then increase either of those parameters until you get the desired result.

I'm truly amazed at how much I love this thing!
The xTool S1 is a work of art! It's stunning to look at and even more amazing to use! I do wish I would have got the 40W model though. That's something I'll have to save for to hopefully get in the future. But back to this 10W version, everything from the design of the machine to the software has made me want to get more into engraving and cutting! This thing is fantastic! You'll love their software too! I've tried other laser brands and after getting the xTool S1 I'm NEVER going back to another brand!

Great desktop laser for makers — powerful and precise, with a couple small quirks
The xTool S1 delivers strong engraving and cutting performance for a machine in its class. The larger bed (nearly 24″×15″) and included air assist + honeycomb make a noticeable difference in cut quality and smoke control. What I liked ✅ Impressive power & precision — easily cuts and engraves wood, acrylic, leather, and more with clean results. ✅ Air assist helps smoke and charring — keeps edges cleaner, especially on detailed cuts. ✅ Spacious working area — big enough for larger projects without feeling cramped. ✅ Well-built for desktop use — sturdy frame and intuitive software make setup smoother. Things to know ⚠ Learning curve — dialing in speeds/power takes a few tries, especially on different materials. ⚠ Noise & ventilation — fan and air assist are loud; good airflow is essential. Bottom line For hobbyists and small shops, the xTool S1 is a powerful, reliable desktop laser that punches above its price. Just budget time for setup and learning.

Great upgrade to the early diodes on the market
I was looking to upgrade my original D1 to an enclosed diode. First off, I know it sounds petty, but I love that it comes in white to match the white furniture in my craft room (ignore the mess, I'm still rearranging). Unlike the earlier diodes, this machine comes practically all assembled. This was a big plus for this not so tech person. Speaking of tech, the auto air assist and auto focus are a game changer. No more remembering to turn on the air assist between engraving and cutting. And a simple button on XCS allows you to set the height of the material. Since I also have the P2, I really got this machine for its engraving ability and that did not disappoint. What I was surprised about was the power and speed this 10w had when cutting. The bunny I cut in no time and the large flowers in a jar were engraved and cut in just under 20 minutes. I have the machine right next to the window and was pleasantly surprised at how well the machine vented out the window. You can see in the video how the smoke was pulling to the back of the machine. I like how visible the cover is and I can comfortably sit in my chair and watch the machine. The viewing window is large. I made the bunny to add to a tiered tray beaded garland. After cutting it out I realized I had forgot to put a hole in the ears to string the jute through. I remedied that by using the pin point marking system to mark out a pentagon inside the bunny ear and placed the hole inside that. As you can see from the picture, the machine had no problem cutting the hole where I needed it.

Love this machine. So easy to use. Definitely way slower then a co2. But it’s great for small items :)

shipping & packing I ordered the S1 10w Basic kit on a Wednesday and it showed up on Saturday. It came in a large box representing it's name. Within the box the S1 machine and all of it's contents were extremely well packaged. The foam fit around the machine like a glove. A couple of very strong velcro straps wrapped the machine which made it very easy to remove from it's shipping box. I have to say this has to be the best shipped item I have ever received. The attention to detail to make sure everything was well packaged and protected is stellar. Safety One of the main reasons I purchased the S1 10w kit was the list of safety features that the S1 has to offer. The machine itself is a Class 1 laser and it proves to be the best option for young prying eyes that are eager to see how it operates. With the laser rated see through cover to the built-in fire suppression system. (additional equipment is needed to be fully functional) The fully enclosed housing is virtually sealed when in operation and that with the help from the built-in exhaust fan to remove any smoke and dust that may occur during operations. The safety is top notch especially the fire alarms, movement alarms and the fact there is an emergency stop button within reach. Furthermore the machine stops in it's tracks if the observation lid is even slightly lifted. Fit & finish Once the S1 was completely unpacked an inspection was done all over the place and I have to say it looked perfect. With the 2 small lockers removed within the work bed the assembly was nearly complete. All that was needed was a protective slip over the module carriage be removed and it was ready to mount the module. with all cables and hoses connected to the well labelled ports it was easy sailing. All that was need was to remove the venting grill to except the provided venting hose. Functions & features Now the fun part, this thing is a beast with a long list of cool functions and features. From auto focusing to real time positioning it makes lasering so much fun. i have to say aside from the 2 point position system the options don't stop there, it also has circle positioning along with multi point for odd shapes. I tell you this may not have a camera but this machine has outdone itself to the point of not needing a camera. Between the XCS software which happens to be free this machine can make creating super fun. Aside from receiving all the needed pieces including cables to hoses, air assist and a honeycomb bed for adding venting for cutting this package also includes a sample pack of substrates. This material pack includes the following: plywood, acrylic, stainless steel tags, leather, glass and etching paper and finally a slate coaster. This material pack gives you enough different types of substrates to actually see how the machine handles different materials. performance One other reason I went with the S1 10w is this 10w diode laser module has a very small laser dot size, this translates to incredible detailed engravings. i can only imagine the projects of engraved portraits this will produce. The honeycomb and the power of the 10w module cuts thin material with ease and having the supplied air assist results in extremely clean cuts as well. final thoughts. Overall this S1 10w basic kit has been nothing but pleasing, it comes with everything you need to go from unpacking to creating within about 15 minutes. With the supplied air assist and honeycomb that comes with the package it is a home run. Xtool has thought of everything, from supplying a material pack to including extra lens protectors and grease for the rails. This packaged kit couldn't be better, it makes creating fun hassle free, leaving more time for creating. The best part of this machine is the lengths they went to provide a safe machine the entire family can enjoy without the fear or worry for young inquiring curious minds. I rate this kit at 10/10 and highly recommend it.

I received a used device. There are several scorched marks on the honeycomb plate.
