I'm happy to see that an up-to-date biography of this fascinating, enigmatic man is now available.As the years have passed by, it has gradually become obvious that One Direction was primarily successful because Harry Styles was in the band. Zayn, Liam, Louis and Niall attempted solo careers, but all peaked in 2017.Since then, Zayn has been convicted of harassment and dropped from his record label, Liam has said he struggles with alcoholism and has been dumped by his management, and Louis' career is little more than a vanity project as he digs into his 1d fortune to finance his second album.Harry, in contrast, has gone from strength to the strength in the six years since One Direction split up. In 2021, he won a Grammy and a Brit for his single Watermelon Sugar. He has sold 6m units of his second album Fine Line, been streamed over 7b times, and is currently making box office of $2-3m a night on his triumphant arena tour of the US.I found this book readable and comprehensive, although hardcore fans looking for new content will be disappointed by the fact that all the material is taken from published interviews. The astrology chapter was also unnecessary.There are also a few errors:Louis' mother Joanna died aged 43 not 52.Erskine Records is named after Harry's own historical Hampstead property, Erskine House.The lyrics to Harry's song Medicine are "I mess around with THEM" not "HIM", as confirmed by Rolling Stone journalist Rob Sheffield in a tweet on November 1 2021.

I haven't read it yet but Mr Harry Styles is gorgeous. Makes a old woman very happy. I love him, his music and everything in between!!!!

Harry Styles: The Making Of A Modern Man, by renowned biographer Sean Smith, was an informative read, especially for those who had no prior knowledge about Harry Styles, however it was an impersonal biography. As far as I could tell, there had been no interviews mentioned by Smith which had been carried out with the intention of this book. Whilst this didn't bother me explicitly, I think that this book is something that anybody with access to Google could have written. There is nothing in it that is exclusive to Sean Smith's work.Additionally, I must pose the question of how can a biography be written of someone who is not yet thirty?Nevertheless, I did really enjoy reading about one of the most important musicians in the world at the moment, and somebody who has scaled impossible heights of fame at such a young age, as well as challenging gender stereotypes. The book was enjoyable, and addictive. I finished it within a few days, though I get the sense that this biography has barely scratched the surface: there is so much more to Harry Styles than Sean Smith - or indeed anybody - could ever chronicle.I don't even think Harry himself could write about it all.This book provides a perfect base for anybody to learn about Harry Styles. It is simple and straight forward, and almost completely up-to-date. Despite its simplicity, there is an element of mystery involved - just as there is with Harry Styles himself. Sean Smith has done a magnificent job of showing this.

I really enjoyed reading this biography as a true Harry Styles fan. I knew so much about him but this book still contained a lot of information I didn’t know about. The book was written very objective without a lot of personal opinions of the author, which I also enjoyed. It is fact based, so there’s no story or thread running through the story, so it may not be a book for everyone, but I loved it!

If you are new to the fandom this is an accurate timeline of Harry’s rise to fame. It’s concise and a good read. However if you were looking for an in-depth delve into THE MAKING OF A MODERN MAN you will be left wanting.Newbies it’s a great way to know Harry’s road to stardom!
