I didn't buy it to trace telephone wires. I had borrowed one from my son to trace my underground dog fence and was able to isolate a splice that had corroded and not allowing the signal to pass through.. Cleaned the joint and it works again. Since borrowing is often inconvenient I bought my own. My trial test seems to work equal to the tester I had borrowed.

Works only up to 3 feet. useless for any troubleshooting.Save your money, go to home depot.
