Little Honey Bee

I have to confess to buying this book for myself, and I am 53! But the exuberant joy of the illustrations transcends age.Those who are familiar with Jane Ormes' work as an artist will see familiar motifs in her illustrations for this book. The images - of a fox, a hare, some bees, birds, trees - are lively, bright and bold. The detail eg in the poppy flowers is beautiful.The book takes the reader (and small companion/s!) through the seasons from the Winter cold to the heat of high Summer. I'd love to see an Autumn to Spring book along the same lines, as the story feels half told.One tiny quibble is that for the younger child who is just starting to make out letters and short words, larger text might have been helpful. The words themselves are charming and evocative, and the 'counting' theme works very well as a thread linking all the pages together.All in all, highly recommended for readers of all ages.

This is a beautiful book! Absolutely wonderful animations and colours. I love it even more than my daughter. There is something old fashioned about it which makes it special and we will use it for many years to come.
