Our favorite little astromech, but now smaller!
I bought this having already bought and built 75308. This set is about half the price of that set and about half the size, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's inferior. It has about half the bricks of the previous set and isn't as detailed due to its size, but for a much lower price point, that is to be expected. I like the smaller size and I think the details it does have looks good on it. The only thing I don't really care for is the accessories. The larger build allowed for the different Artoo arms to fold up into the body. The accessories here involve you taking off the panel and replacing it with the accessory. It's fine, but you run the risk of either losing the panel or losing the accessory. The middle leg also doesn't go up into the body, it attaches to the bottom. Probably harder to lose, though. This set doesn't have the black box of the other adult oriented sets, but I would say this set is probably more adult friendly than kid friendly. I don't have any kids, though. It was easier to put together, even with the technics skeleton. The skeleton of the bigger set is way more intricate, so this might be a little more kid friendly.I think regardless of whether or not you have the bigger set, this is a good set to get. Also, it comes with a Darth Malak minifigure (from Knights of the Old Republic) and an R2D2...which if you build and collect Lego Star Wars sets, you probably have a lot of by now. I'd love to see them make a similar set, but with Chopper.

LET GO MY LEGGOS!
This R2-D2 Star Wars (25th anniversary) kit was adventurous in itself. The kit arrived intact without damages to the contents. The kit contained 12 - separate packages of parts (legos) to construct this item: the assembly booklet was detailed and colored-coded to make the assembly accurate; the enclosed legos for each packet were clearly marked and separated for specialize-assembly; the kit displayed series of sections for the item assembly and how they will fit; and the abillity to perform " reverse-construction " was identified in case of wrong assembly. Overall presentation was superior and with is various decal applications wasn't difficult. Displayed on entertainment furniture for a collectible.

Pros and Cons - A good deal for a solid set!
Pros:1. At $100 this set is a pretty good deal, with 1050 pieces, it gives you a few hours to construct one of the more fun LEGO builds I’ve done in a while.2. The R2-D2 is a nice size, not too small but also not oversized. This means you can display it wherever you’d like. For parents looking to buy for kids, THIS IS NOT A PLAY SET! While in some ways it could be used as one, it’s a rather fragile set and comes with a display plaque as it’s intended to be put on a shelf or table for display.3. The end build is very satisfying, with some accessories to customize your R2 and a rotating head to pose it in any way you’d like.4. The bonus minifigure Darth Malak is very nice touch, as Old Republic characters are rare for Lego to make, and is a good addition to anyone’s collection. Keep an eye out for any other Star Wars sets this year with special minifigures!Cons:1. At $100 there are a substantial amount of stickers, which can be annoying to put on bricks if your hands aren’t that steady.Overall:At $100 this is a really solid set and I recommend this one far more over the UCS R2-D2 which is over $100 more. It’s a great display piece and a fun build to put together. The Darth Malak minifigure just makes this set even more appealing.

Perfect size
This R2 is the perfect size given how much technic building is involved. I’m not a huge technic build but given the structure it was a necessary evil but the size made it tolerable. The entire build was a good experience and top notch display ability. This pairs well with the buildable C-3PO or the Chewbacca.

It’s Lego.
I chose this version over the larger, more expensive, model because it is on the same scale and pairs well with the C-3PO. It was a fun build and a nice little display of “the most beloved droids in the galaxy.” The big downside of this model is the two doors that hold the data port and the “zapper” are not really doors. The tile piece must be removed so the arm sub-assembly can be hooked on. I knew before ordering, but it is still a minor annoyance.

Lego never disappoints!
Really neat once assembled! My son tried to pace himself - still completed in one afternoon. For any experienced LEGO enthusiast this one doesn’t disappoint. A little expensive but now it’s on display and he has another for his collection.

WHAT FUN!
My grandson got this for his 17th birthday. A BIG Star Wars fan. He absolutely loves it. Can't wait to see the finished product.
