Great Story - well written
Read this when it first came out and again after watching the mini-series. It's a shame this isn't available in Kindle since I have slowly over the years been adding "My all time favorite Reads" from print to Kindle. I bought it again when I was asked to name five books I would read at least once a year. This was one of the five.

Descriptions
Loved the descriptions but didn't like the over use of them, The characters were unique and most informing and entertaining.

A great read
Many characters to keep Track of, but each chapter keeps you intrigued with life stories in the early 1900s. Ellis Island is a great read to hold your interest to the end.

Ellis Island, historical fiction
My husband borrowed this book but returned it before I had a chance to read it. "Ellis Island" was of interest to me also, so I purchased a used book.

A Gift
Arrived promptly, well packaged, it was bought as a gift for my sister in law. She had read the book before and leant it to someone and not got it back, so I ordered her this one. She loves this book and says it is very well written.

Moving
Descriptive and compelling, this book was a read-all, don't put it down adventure for me. Fred Mustard Stewart is an excellent author.

Entertaining view of America's immigration experience
Don't judge this book by its grim cover--it's a sprawling, vastly entertaining story with lots of humor and wit. It's quite improbable but that makes it no less enjoyable. Stewart clearly loved history and was a terrific storyteller. This is like a book version of a lavish 80s miniseries.

Wonderful book
I first had this as an audiobook back in 1990s and now reread as a book. It is nostalgic, exciting and well written.I'd recommend it to anyone interest in this period of American history.

Atmospheric book about the start of the American Nation
Enjoying this book, it does jump about a bit and there are a lot of characters but it is well written and conjures up this period in American History pretty well. Anyway interested in Ellis Island and the diversity of immigrants that came through its doors will enjoy this

Good start, bad ending.
Very disappointed with this book. I bought it after I watched the mini series online. I feel that the author should have written another 150 to 200 pages because all of the stories within the novel are wrapped up very quickly in the last two pages. One character barely gets a mention in the book's second half, but then someone from her past arrives and she panics, one paragraph later and she's all okay, problem solved. I guess having 5 'stars' of your story and then adding another 10 or so minor characters and trying to tell their stories in less than 500 pages is difficult to do.
