Comes together perfectly if you go slow and pay attention to detail
I searched for a file cabinet for quite a while. I didn't find anything particularly attractive or special at the office stores locally. I also looked at Wal Mart, and while there was a steel file cabinet there that was pre-assembled, the gauge of metal was quite thin and easy to bend. Despite some lower reviews, I gave this a shot. Above all things, when it comes to assembly you need to go slowly. Watch that the screws you are inserting are lined up perpendicular to the wood before driving them in. Yes, pilot holes have been pre-drilled but this is still essentially a pressed wood that will splinter and will allow a screw to go in crooked. The next tip I have is to pay attention to the diagrams. There are cases where two holes are next to each other, one for a screw, one for a dowel pin. The instructions are well written, and the pictures are detailed (though for older eyes, they could have provided them a bit bigger). I took 2 hours to assemble this carefully, and in the end the gaps and seams look perfect. I have built several pieces of this type of furniture before, I'm handy around the house, and I do my own car repairs. Also, I did use a power driver, which they recommend against, but I had it set to the lowest clutch setting so it would not strip the holes. If your drill or power screwdriver doesn't have a clutch (torque limit) I would stick to a regular screwdriver. If you're not a patient person, this might not be the unit for you. With all this said, the finished product looks very nice. The grain in the espresso finish is convincingly real from any distance, and once you put your hands on it and realize it's not solid wood, it still feels good under your fingertips. It's very sturdy as well, and quite heavy. If you're going to move it regularly you'll want to look for some casters at a hardware store. Sliding the drawers in at the end was probably the most 'worrisome' piece. Despite following the directions very carefully, one drawer slid in with great ease, while the other drawer required a very hard push and several hits with the palm of my hand. I even removed it once and started again to be sure I had it lined up. I am mechanically inclined and am confident the rails were lined up correctly, but the tolerance between the interlocking of the rails must have been very tight. Once the rail seated itself, the drawer then worked with no further issues. It does use ball bearings and glides easily in a smooth manner that makes this feel like a quality piece. I bought a lateral file cabinet over the narrow style, because this allowed me to place my all-in-one printer on top without the printer hanging off any sides. And there's still room next to the printer for other office needs. Very happy.

Excellent unit. Assembly is complication is overstated.
I was worried based on some of the negative reviews that there may be delivery issues of the drawer unit coming damaged or there being some strange assembly difficulty. After having received it and assembled it, I'm glad I took the chance. This unit is one of the best flat pack pieces I've ever bought. I know how to assemble flat pack furniture, and the instructions here are super clear, actual words instead of guessing pictures and numbers. Everything is labeled clearly, all the holes match up to the fittings provided. It took maybe 2 hours to put together. Small cordless drill and a screwdriver is all you need. I needed this for some storage in my basement, and I slid the box down the stairs, unpacked it to inspect all the pieces and everything was in perfect shape. I am very happy with this unit. The drawer slides are proper metal slides and already attached. The drawers are enforced on the bottom with an additional piece of particle board. Yes it's all laminated particle board with a laminated MDF drawer bottom, but for this price, shipped, you can't beat it. I am not using it to store folders, so the metal pieces for hanging folders are not particularly useful to me, but they're well designed into the unit. If you are on the fence, and if you've ever put together a piece of IKEA furniture, this is easier. I would frame the instruction booklet it was so easy to follow. If I need more flat pack pieces I will look to this company, they have it worked out to perfection. To the point where you have 3 different booklets for different languages. I had recently converted my daughter's crib to a toddler bed and had to deal with instructions where, even with an engineering degree I had to take it apart 2 times because it made so little sense and that conversion kit alone was several times more money than this, and not significantly higher quality either.

A good and inexpensive option
First let me say this is made of cheap press/particle board materials. Now, let me say once this guy is assembled and placed I don't think you'll care till you need to move it. Assembly was easy but time consuming as you will spend a lot of time in preassembly gluing dowels into place and screwing in mounting parts. As with all things assembled read twice assembled once. As the first drawer was a bit tricky and with glue redos get messy quickly. All parts are provided and they even give a bag full of extra parts in case things are missing. Luckly I didn't need any. The glue is barely enough. Have some extra wood glue ready so you aren't sweating it near the end like I was. One of my shelves had a chip too but when assembled it's not noticeable so I didn't bother to ask for a replacement. It was probably my fault when I was unpacking the parts as I did it with the box upright. (pro tip unpack it flat and be gental) The lock is a joke as anyone could force their way in but it serves as a tamper warning and deterant so it's good enough just don't think it'll keep anything safe from someone that really wants in. There are mounting screws on the rear to secure it to a wall though I think it's more for stability than security. Overall I would buy again.

Beautiful File Cabinet
This is a beautiful file cabinet. It arrived with no scratches or scuffs. The directions for assembly are very clear and all of the parts are clearly labeled. It is somewhat time-consuming to assemble, but not particularly difficult. The drawers slide in and out very well, and the lock works perfectly. For being made out of pressed wood, it is pretty darn solid. I'm always a little wary when ordering things that need to be assembled, because they oftentimes don't line up, are wobbly, or don't open/close correctly. However, I've assembled several Z-Line products and they always assemble perfectly.

Enfin un classeur avec une bonne capacité de stockage. Soyez patient le montage ce fait bien, mais il faut prendre sont temps (environ 1hrs ou 2 hrs), mais ca vaut la peine pour le prix

Easy to put together and a perfect size for a small place

Fairly easy assembly if you follow the instructions carefully. Read the whole thing first in order to realize you can ignore the first 2 pages.
