I didn't buy these for my gutter. I put them in my garden over my sunflower seeds to keep the squirrels from digging up the seeds. And it worked!!!

We've been using this type of gutter guard for many years. They work really well for keeping debris out of the downspouts. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that there are different sizes and I didn't check before getting these particular items. They can still be used; they "scrunch up" to fit but when they're too big and therefore have to really compress then they clog up quickly. My bad. But these are of good quality, so if you measure your downspouts and find they're the right size for your needs I definitely recommend them.

Even though I clean my rain gutters every year I have two downspouts that plug up at least once or twice a couple months after the cleaning. These are labeled as "gutter guards" but that's not what these are. Gutter guards are flat screen like rectangular pieces that lay on top of the rain gutter to keep debris out of the entire rain gutters. These are downspout strainers that are placed at the top of the downspout in the rain gutter that keeps debris out of the downspout. For me, these are what I needed. If you actually need gutter guards than these won't do. As far as these downspout strainers, they are very well made and should last for many many seasons. In fact, these downspout strainers are actually of better quality than what you can pick up at Lowes or Home Depot. These are the 3.5 inch ones which are meant for larger diameter downspouts. The ones I usually get are the 2.5 inch ones because they are easier to get into the downspout. These are still usable but you have to work them in a little more than the smaller ones. Overall these are really good downspout strainers that are better than what the big box stores carry.
