Overall a fun game, but with a few issues
This game has so much potential, but is let down by some pretty broken game mechanics and non working features. Some aspects of the game I really like, whilst others I really hate. The presentation of the game is very good. The character models look pretty good and the game feels pretty authentic with regards to the music, wrestler entrances, commentary and overall vibe. It feels like WWE if you were watching it on tv. Some of the characters don’t look like their real life versions, but they still look good and there’s a good selection to choose from. The blood realism is pretty good, and the blood does stain the ring. There is a bug where the female wrestlers don’t seem to bleed at all, but hopefully 2K will fix this in an update. There is quite a lot of different match types you can set up and play (or even just spectate). For the most part, they are fun to play with the exception of a few. Wargames is one of my favourites as it is so chaotic and fun to use breakable weapons, put people through tables etc. There are a lot of fun moves you can perform as well. The match types that don’t really work are casket and ambulance. This is a shame as they ought to be a lot of fun by their very nature. This is down to a frustrating submission mechanic that only works if you heavily damage your opponents body parts. This can take a long time to do and makes the match very tedious to play. There are 2 stories to play through, which are fun for the most part, but do have a few very frustrating matches that you have to win to progress. I had to search online for how to achieve some objectives as the in-game guidance was not clear at all.The reversals mechanic doesn’t work very well at all. Due to some controller lag, if you wait for the on-screen prompt then it is already too late. Due to the wide variety of moves your opponent can do, it is difficult to anticipate, so it becomes a guessing game or mashing the block button in the hope one press is at the right time. The showcase mode is something that could have been really good, but due to having to complete so many specific objectives in sequence, it becomes a tedious frustrating chore to play. Unfortunately you need to complete these to unlock some additional wrestlers. I didn’t enjoy this, but felt like I needed to push through it to unlock more wrestlers. I don’t think it was worth the frustration though. My faction mode is your typical grind for loot affair. It can be fun for a bit, but it gets boring very quickly like most live service games tend to. Some people might like this though .Now, if you want this game mostly for on-line multiplayer then sadly you will be disappointed. I’ve been playing this game for over a month now and I haven’t managed to find an on-line match to play. Either nobody plays this game online or it is broken. My guess is that it is broken. 2K should not be allowed to advertise this game as having on-line mode IMO.MyGM mode is okay if you like management simulations. Not the best aspect of the game, but it’s nice to have included. You get to buy a team of wrestlers and setup shows and basically gain more money and popularity than the rival brands. Fairly basic, but you get to either spectate or play the matches, create rivalries and watch them play out etc.The graphics and performance are pretty good on the Xbox Series X with no noticeable frame rate issues. The only thing I’ve noticed is some controller input lag.Overall this game is a bit of a mixed bag. Hopefully WWE 2k25 will address these issues.
