disappointing
I bought the book because I liked the cover and believed the previous review to be accurate. What a mistake! This book looks like the work of a beginner at street photography, not an established professional; many of his shots seem to be taken from the hip resulting in poor framing, lots of peoples' backsides, irrelevant and repetitive. The composition is tedious, mechanical, uninspired. The author tries to be edgy but it after a few images you get tired of the same gimmick of underexposure in fore-plan, shadows on the wall and framing some silly subject. I uploaded some images and wrote notes so that others can decide for themselves. Boring, boring, boring. I am disappointed and will return it.

Amazing
This is the book that for me, changed my view of street photography. The photos in this book utilize color, shadows, and people in a way that is unique. They are beautifully composed and really show the skill of someone who has been photographing for over 60 years. This is a big book that is packed with photos so it will keep you busy for a while and if you're a photographer like me, can be a great source of inspiration. I own quite a few photography books, and this one stands out as one of my favorites.

Fantastic surreal pictures that took my breath away.
Truly Constantine Manos is one of the best practitioners of color photography around. His photos are familiar and yet slightly surreal, leaving you with more questions than they answer. Costa's mastery of color, shadow and shape will have you looking at these strange and wonderful photos again and again.I probably own about 200 photo books. This is without a doubt one of the best.

Great book, still having mixed opinions about it
If you're more familiar with Manos' BW photographs I think you should give this one a try, it's a pretty big departure from his usual style but his mark is there. The book hold its name very well as its very American in its landscape and depiction of people and, make no mistake, the subject is color here. Unlike Alex Webb or David Alan Harvey, there is rarely a sort of narrative in the pictures here, his work is more abstract and often puts the color work before the actual story in the photograph. It's a very good book
