Great Treats - Dog Loves them all!
My dog is a fussy eater, and he loves all the treats. They are easy to make and they don't take long. His current favorite is the liver and garlic treats, and the recipe makes a lot of them. I put a bag in the fridge and freeze a bag and as I continue to use them I move them from freezer to fridge. He likes those treats frozen also. Most of the ingredients are easy to find, and the recipes are not difficult to make by any means. I already had a copy of this book, and I recently bought this book for a friend for Christmas. She's a dog lover and she was absolutely thrilled!

Owner and dog desserts
Reviews on this book are deceptive. The author states several times in book about garlic and other harmful ingredients for dogs. The recipes are meant for dog owner and pooch to enjoy recipes. Recipes are bland in most cases but interesting. I found that most of the ingredients are on hand and easily found in stores, nothing that is difficult or pricey to find or a specialty item.

Missing important info
I would have given this book 5 stars but she fails to mention a very important ingredient to watch for that can be fatal to dogs. Xylitol is an all natural alcohol sweetener that may be present in all natural peanut butters. ALWAYS read your ingredients & be familiar with them, all that you plan to use in your dog's recipes. Xylitol can be deadly to your dog. Never give any ingredient that contains this to your dog. Just because it says "all natural " doesn't mean it's safe!

VERIFY EVERY INGREDIENT YOU USE IS SAFE FOR YOUR DOG!
December 2020: I only gave one star because author includes garlic in a lot of recipes which most experts say is toxic to dogs. The recipes look like they’d be good, but I plan to omit the garlic and hopefully my fur babies will still enjoy them. I also found at least two recipes calling for walnuts which are also toxic to dogs. I haven’t gone through all the recipes yet so there could be other ingredients that are toxic as well, so make certain to verify all ingredients in the recipes you choose to make are toxic ingredient free. *****Update June 2025: Guidelines frequently change regarding what is harmful and what is safe for your dog. Guidelines have changed and garlic is now considered safe in small amounts for your dog. The author now states in the book that garlic is safe in small quantities, though that was not there when I first bought and reviewed the book. That being said, you should still look up the recommended guidelines for how much is safe for your dog based on weight and on rare occasions their breed for any ingredient. It is not only imperative that you verify each ingredient, but also the ingredients of everything you use for the recipe. What I mean by this is for instance, peanut butter, even if it is organic, it still has other ingredients besides just peanuts. You must make certain there is no Xylitol in it as a few peanut butters do. Xylitol in ANY amount can be deadly to your dog. Some of the recipes call for beef or chicken broth. Most broths contain onions, garlic, salt, etc. Onions are still considered harmful to dogs, so the onion alone makes it a hard no…but if you find one without the onion, be certain to check the rest of the ingredients and the amount of each. I didn’t see the author state anywhere to be certain to chose a broth which does NOT contain onions. The author did however call for low sodium broth in the recipes. One of the recipes in the book calls for walnuts, but you MUST BE CAREFUL….English walnuts are generally considered safe in small quantities, but BLACK WALNUTS ARE TOXIC! The recipe doesn’t call for English walnuts or black walnuts, it just calls for walnuts and I saw no mention of this danger! English walnuts also must be chopped or ground small enough to not cause choking or intestinal blockage. These are just some of the things I noticed. Bottom line is that it is up to YOU to VERIFY INGREDIENTS of both the recipe and your ingredients to be certain there is nothing harmful in the foods you make for your dog. You obviously love them or you wouldn’t be making them food or treats. So go the extra step to be certain what you are making them is safe for them.
