Just Love: Personal and social transformation in Christ

I've read a lot of books over the years that focused on individual and group study in Lent. The importance of Just Love is that it can be used for personal or group study. It also focuses on life in community and discipleship with pointers to how individual Christians might serve their community and how local churches can grow a vision for the communities they serve.Alongside the direction for action are pointers to how to take time to grow in spirituality. All in all this book is welcome reminder that faith is rooted in the call to service that is rooted in prayer and worship.Terry Drummond

Like many Lent Books, it would be easy to assume that this is a one read and dispose of type book. (Who really remembers the last Lent Book they read.) Yet I would want to suggest that this book provides a clearer statement of what an 'Anglican Social Theology' (AST) might look like in practical terms than the book of the same title, issued by the Church of England earlier this year. This is because, rather than taking a high academic view of what AST is, it provides a 'feet on the ground' exposition, using both Biblical research and practical examples of how the Church can help build community and change society at its basic level. Thus in many ways this book is more helpful than the recently published volume articulating AST, more helpful because it spends less time reviewing the past (and failing to come to any concrete conclusions about either the past, the present or the future), but rather developing that theological action might actually look like.
