My Rad Life: A Journal (Rad Women)

This little journal is in the same style as the Rad Women books (Rad Women Worldwide, Rad Women A-Z) and is a great way to help young ladies connect their lives to the lives of these awesome role models. Colorful, illustrated pages draw you in and the questions scattered throughout help guide the journal writing to focus on personal growth. There is plenty of space to just right what you feel, but the questions are what really tie this to the Rad Women books. These questions help a young person realize that they can live extraordinary lives too, filled with accomplishments and fulfill their dreams. I think it is probably best aimed at middle-schoolers, old enough to really give some of these questions real thought and young enough to let these personal reflections shape their futures. I will be showing the journal to my high school students next week and see what their take on it is.

This is a heavy, sturdy journal that will make a nice keepsake when filled. I think it would be appropriate for girls ages 12-20 and as a gift for birthdays, holidays, graduations, and other special days. It doesn't lock, but a rad girl could figure something out if she desired privacy.The pages are heavy stock and smooth, and the cover is stiff with secure binding. Very high quality. Some pages are completely blank with a colorful bar across the top and bottom. Other pages are lined. There are pages that feature a quote from a rad woman with her likeness done by the artist. On the opposite page is an assignment which pertains to the quote. The assignments vary from writing poems, to getting outdoors and observing the environment, thinking about family, reflecting on goals or failures, hopes for the future, emotions, empathy, diversity, etc. The last few pages offer short, biographical blurbs about the wide variety of rad women presented as role models and inspiration in the journal.There is alot of blank space around the art/quotes, as well as the title page, fly leaf, and inside covers, so the entire journal can be used up. Not only for writing, it could also be used as a scrapbook for photographs, artist trading cards or other papercraft, pressed leaves/flowers, or concert/lecture tickets, etc.Well worth the price, and a perfect companion to the book. This is a beautifully illustrated journal full of inspirational quotes from powerful women throughout generations. Some pages even have prompts to inspire you. My favorite is a section where you can write a list of a all your favorite books and it encourages you to draw them as well. There’s all kinds of prompts from lists, drawing a self-portrait, writing poems, looking back on memories, and writing future goals and how to achieve them! There’s plenty of historical ladies and ladies of today like Lady Gaga and Beyonce. Some of my favorites featured were Yoko Ono, J.K. Rowling and Emma Watson. There’s even a section in the back telling you a little about every lady in this amazing journal.I think that any girl of any age would love this. I think it would be great for pre-teens and teenage girls to help them love themselves and others and it’s great for adult women that need a little inspiration in life or just love to do creative journaling.

This journal is, as titled, RAD. It’s filled with the most empowering quotes from the most empowering women. It’s also incredibly diverse, from women in all types of jobs, and of all races, nationalities, sexualities. The journal is built to allow for writing, scribbling, and drawing.This is the journal for that brilliant and creative person in your life, and would make a terrific gift! In fact, that’s probably what I am going to do with mine. Because I am so picky about how my journal is structured, I don’t tend to use pre-filled books like this. I’ll read through the quotes, and definitely gain the information about the people inside it, but then I will pass this on to someone I know will use and love it.
