The best orchestrations of these epic classics. None better. There is such a difference in what Kunzel did with these classics when compared to the original orchestrations. The most significant examples are The Magnificent Seven, Lawrence of Arabia and Pearl Harbor. We are so fortunate to have these recordings and others by the late Erich Kunzel.

Sounds great on my home audio system. I am not a big Classical music fan but the music in this recording sounds great. I recommend this to anyone, but especially to those who don't often listen to classical music. It also will sound better if your stereo has a subwoofer.

Epics [Hybrid SACD ] is a top notch collection of movie themes. I find it satisfying in every way. Couldn't recommend it more highly!That's what I think, now perhaps a couple of words to help you know whether you would like it. First, the music is largely "epic" pieces. Short, often martial, generally with typical modern movie classical flavor. Rhythmic. Orchestral. If you know and like any of the standard pieces represented here, you'll like most of the music chosen. There are a couple of selections that are just beautiful melodic pieces, which, in a way provides a little gentle, sweet frosting on a very imposing cake.

This cd is an essential for any person that particularly enjoys the score in films. Epics is a full length cd containing 14 songs performed by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra under Erich Kunzel.Usually, I am weary of cds that come out with songs from movies that aren't the original recordings, but I have to say there should be no worries with this cd. The songs remain exactly the same in tempo and sound as you hear them in the movies.The choices for this cd was amazing. Every song that you hear are the songs that make the movie it is in, most often giving you chills and goosebumps as the music encompasses you into the movie (like what happened to me when I saw Lord of the Rings). From the Theme from 2001: a Space Oddysey to Star Wars: Attack of the Clones to Lord of the Rings, these songs are performed beautifully with a clear and crisp sound.I am hoping for an Epics II to be released someday, but in the meantime, check this out, you will NOT be dissappointed!

This is one of the best movie theme compilations I have come across in a long time. With Erich Kunzel's able hands, the beautiful themes from "The Lord of the Rings," "Gladiator," "Harry Potter," "Dr. Zhivago," "Lawrence of Arabia," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Ben Hur" and others are vividly brought to life.My favorite has to be the "Fellowship of the Ring" suite which, at over 6 minutes, is the longest track in the CD. It includes the fabulous themes I love from the film such as the Hobbiton, Mines of Moria, Amon Hen, Isengard and Breaking of the Fellowship themes from the original soundtrack. The "Gladiator" suite comes as a close second but there really isn't a mediocre theme music in this collection. Erich Kunzel has done a fabulous job of selecting, orchestrating and arranging these wonderful pieces and I consider this one of the best classical CDs in my collection. Superb!

This a collection of famous film soundtracks. I bought it to have them in SACD format, expecting also a an improved mastering, but they are not better than the corresponding CD version: same level of compression and also not so good recording.

Wenn ein von Erich Kunzel und seinen Cincinnati Pops interpretierter Soundtrack viel besser klingt als das Original, ist meistens TELARC daran Schuld.Die liefern seit den 80ern audiophile Sahnestücke wie TIME WARP etc. ab, die jeder passionierte Sammler audiophiler Spezialitäten wie Diamanten hegt und pflegt.EPICS ist mal wieder so eine Klangperle, wo man als Audiophiler nicht lange überlegt, sondern spontan entscheidet:Gladiator, Star Wars, Der Herr der Ringe, Harry Potter oder gar Ben Hur will ich - verdammt noch mal und viel besser als das Original - in allerbester Mehrkanal-Qualität bei voller Dynamik und Kunzel-Interpretation vom Feinsten in meinem Heimkino oder auf einer hochwertigen HiFi-Anlage hören!Der Preis ist mehr als angemessen!

2001、風と共に去りぬなどの定番から、S.W.EPII、ロードオブザリング、ハリーポッターなどの話題作も押さえている。特にマルチ層の音が素晴らしい。CDだけを聞いていればそれなりにいい音で鳴ってくれるのだが、マルチにすると残響がリアに回る恩恵もあるのか、音が活き活きしてくる。低音も輪郭をはっきりさせ、ブラスの吹けあがりもなめらか、私のシステムの欠点はやはり弦楽器の質感か。悪くはないのだが。それにしてもマルチのSACD層を聞いてしまうとCD層が一回り小さく見えてしまう。
