Expensive, but lots of play value built in
Obviously, being LEGO, you can combine the contents of the box with other bricks you already own to make your own things, but the set is predominantly intended to be self-contained, building a hospital with many different areas. The figures supplied are slightly more realistic than the older LEGO figures and have already been given names to fit into the rest of the expansive LEGO Friends universe. The build itself takes a while and, depending on the capabilities of your child, can require a significant amount of adult input. The instructions are straightforward and logically laid out, but require patience. Once finished, the kit looks impressive and offers hours of entertainment to your child. LEGO is at the top of its game, here, but you pay for the privilege.

Fantastic build with lovely little details
My daughters are over the moon with this Lego Friends hospital - it makes a great addition to their existing playsets and similar to the other larger Lego Friends builds, this one is also full of little details and fun features. The build itself is easy to put together. There's 2 pictorial instruction books inside - one for the helicopter and a thicker one for the hospital. Each page is very simple to follow, with just the addition of a small amount of bricks at a time. My daughters, aged 9 and 14 managed to put this together without any problems. The overall build is quite sturdy - we had no problems transferring it to a different room after building. The bricks are of the usual excellent quality you'd expect and they hold together well. The hospital is full of fun rooms, ranging from a maternity ward and an x-ray room, to a prosthetic clinic - there's also a vet on the lower floor! There's a rather cool working lift with a glass look front and a helicopter pad on the roof too. The hospital comes with 5 figures, 2 baby figures, a dog and a little medical robot, so even if your little ones are new to the Friends series, there's plenty in this set to keep them busy. Overall it's a fun, detailed playset that provides not only a fun building experience, but hours of imaginative play :)

Timeless toy
Who doesn't like Lego, unless you have just stood on a piece in stocking feet! This is a huge set at a pretty large price to boot, however, having purchased a lot of this product for our son in the past, with him having grown out of Lego, how better to give this as a gift is to our great nephew, who we have already introduced to the magic of lego construction. It is not just the finished product with Lego that has value in my opinion, it is teaching young children how to both interpret and work with of ten quite complex tasks to produce an end result. Even now at 69 years of age, when I look at Lego diagrams I sometimes scratch my head and then set about solving the problem. It will be no different for how our great nephew at 7 years of age will address this and if I am lucky, I will be called in to assist him. So why is this worth 5 stars, it does come in at a hefty price of just short of £90.00? First of all, it comes in bags for each component element of the overall structure which for our purposes will be handed out one pack at a time, along with the relevant plan and once complete, move onto the next bag. We intend to give it to him for half term and hopefully with an adult he will assemble each pack before eventually completing the whole project. Lego is timeless, it is incredibly flexible by nature and from my experience is virtually indestructible. Sadly the structure which each pack is designed for are often broken up to become part of a huge mixture, but once again Lego demonstrates its flexibility permitting young and sometimes older people to design their own projects. It isn't cheap but should provide hours of enjoyment and a sense of satisfaction as each part if built. Fantastic toy.
