Good quality wooden toy
Bought this for my nephew's 3rd birthday as he's started playing shop and pretending to cook/prepare food.I've bought quite a few Melissa+Doug toys for him now and find them to be spot on. There's 16 pieces to this sandwich making set which comprise of. . .1 knife1 x burger bun (top+ bottom)4x slices of bread1x beef burger1x ham1x egg2x cheese2x lettuce2x tomato1x green pepperThese all come in a sturdy wooden box but as others have said, there's no lid!?As the parts of the sandwich are put together the whole thing is held together by a central velcro piece on each part. So your child can move it without it falling to bits. The items are easily identifiable being the correct colour and shape. Plenty of scope here for learning food groups, names, colours, counting, food preparation and healthy eating. This is a really nice set which will take a few knocks and last a long time. Just need to find a beer and kebab one now for my lad. He's big! :)

Great for cutting and making
This was a Christmas present for our son who is 2 1/4. He loves to slice the bread and cut up the tomatoes and lettuce. With all the 'cutting' the paint has rubbed a little onto the wooden knife but otherwise looks pretty durable. Lots of play opportunities and am sure his enthusiasm will continue with this toy.

A perfect complement to his kitchen set
2 year old nephew loves making sandwiches and chopping them up again afterwards. A perfect complement to his kitchen set. A junior chef in the making.

Wooden Sandwich Making Set
This is a really good quality traditional type wooden toy. I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old son for Christmas and he loves it. He has had hours of fun role playing, taking sandwich orders from mummy and daddy and going away and making them up to perfection and getting all the fillings correct....just lovely. Each part of the sandwich, for example the bread, the tomato etc had velcro in the middle so that it all sticks together. The velcro pads are embedded slightly into the wood so they sit flush. The only real negative that I would say about this product is that it doesn't come with a lid, which seems odd when it all comes in such a nicely made wooden box to keep it all in!

Lunchtime fun
This sandwich set could be used to make up to three different sandwiches at the same time which allows my son's cafe to serve us all lunch at the same time. The pieces are really chunky with simple colour or design making it clear what each item should be. The Velcro seems strong and certainly the sandwiches that my two year old have made so far have survived being carried all around the house.

A lid shy of perfection
This is a really enjoyable well-made toy in the Velcro-together cutting food style. The great quality, well-finished wooden pieces are brightly painted (over time, the paint job can get a bit chipped if the pieces are not carefully looked after), and in gentle hands can last really well. The pieces are ideal for home or childcare/early years education use (the latter in support of Early Years Foundation Stage goals regarding making healthy choices) and are a lot of fun. The wooden knife and a couple of the bread pieces are unfinished and over time can be prone to picking up dirt, washing these pieces isn't ideal, but a quick and gentle rub with fine sand/glass paper is enough to bring them back into good condition. The sturdily made presentation/storage box is also wooden and has glued on paper labels printed in a red and white tablecloth effect. It's just a shame, as with many other Melissa and Doug toys, that a lid isn't included to keep the pieces safely inside the box once the initial shrink-wrap has been removed.
