Literally not what I ordered
I am torn about how to rate this product. I wanted a good 18 gauge direct burial wire for several electronic dog fences I had to install. The 500' spool advertised here was the best price I'd seen so I went ahead and ordered four spools and enough direct burial splices to do all the fences I had in mind. Lead time was several days, so I was going to be stuck with whatever they sent, because I only had a short window to do the installations. When I received my order, I was surprised to see that they hadn't sent me four 500' spools. Instead, they took it upon themselves to send me a single giant 2000' spool. I see their logic, but that's not what I ordered. And for good reason. Very large spools are harder to handle, and almost impossible to use on a manually operated trencher/cable layer. The spool is just too heavy to sit right or turn well on the spindle, so the wire gets pulled much tighter than you want and tends to not sit in the trench. The second concern was that this was not 18 gauge wire. The core miked out at 0.92 mm and the 2000' spool tested at 17 ohms. This is 19 gauge wire. Don't get me wrong, this is tough stuff with a terrific thick insulation. I'm not worried about the mechanical life of my wire. But I paid for 18 gauge wire and I got 19 gauge wire. There's 20% less copper in my spool than I paid for.But they had me over a barrel. I had to do two of my installs that weekend and couldn't get an alternative fast enough, so I used it. And yes, that oversized spool refused to turn on the standard-sized spindle on the trencher so the wire kept pulling free of the trench at every corner, requiring manual reburial. A job that's taken an hour in the past took about 90 minutes instead. Like I said, I'm not worried that the wire won't work or won't last. That's some heavy duty insulation an 19 gauge wire is plenty conductive in this application. But I still feel like I got screwed, through no fault of my own.

shipped quick... does the job
I ordered 2 spools to replace my current fence as it was destroyed when I had 30 trees removed from yard. I purchased 18 GA wire originally when I put the fence in so I wanted to stay the same on the fix. Although the wire is 18 GA the protective coating is less that it was 7 or so years ago when I put the original fence in. I suppose this is normal with the times as this is a USA made wire and I'm sure the thinner protection saves a few penny's... so far so good... less protection = 4 stars

Wire Rusts Causing Hidden Breaks
This wire has a low copper content. The case of the wire breaks down over time and I spent countless weekends searching for and repairing wire breaks. I finally pulled it all up and replaced it. There was at least 100 splices in the old wire.

Skip the 20 gage.
After tripping over and breaking the thinner wire that comes with the radio fence I bought this and put it in all of my high traffic areas. For gates, I recommend buying some drip line tubing and running the wire through it, which is also easier with this heavier gauge (15' sections is the max, anything longer seems to be an exercise in frustration, duct tape the sections together.)And try to remember where it is, mowing or weed wacking your wire is not fun on many different levels.(Learn from my fail.)

Seems fine, but there is nothing on the spool to designate actual size
Arrived quickly/ good packing. And while this appears to be just fine, there is nothing to affirm the size of the wire. I ordered 18 g and most likely that's what this is, but without identification, I'm not 100%.

Tough wire
I was really impressed with the durability of this product. We installed it using a tractor pulling a box blade with one tooth lowered and a piece of PVC attached to the back of the tooth. This worked well through clear ground but not in the wooded areas. For them we just laid it on the ground. Oh and the hole in the spool fit the pin thru the top link bar which made it self feeding.

Better than the wire sent with my electronic dog fence system
I ordered this wire to supplement the wire fencing for an electronic dog fence system. I was surprised that it arrived within two days after ordering and was very pleased with the thickness of the insulation around the wire when I inspected it. I found that this wire looks more durable and longer lasting than the wire sent with dog fence system and opted to use only this wire for installation.

Great!
this wire is much better than the ultra thin wire that came with my in-ground wireless pet fence. It's still thin, but not too thin. The wire (it's a lot, pleased with that) comes on a big black spool. I haven't gotten it hooked up yet, but it's wire.., I'm sure it will be good. I'll update on that.

Three Stars
Don't know as I ordered the 18 gauge and got the thinner and less expensive 20 gauge instead.
