A real mess with your head read.
Kit is under a shadow at work after being suspended for six months, on returning she is given a job she would rather not take but has no other option but to take it. There have been lots of rumours over the years and speculation as to what really happened surrounding the death of three of the Hope family. I have to say it certainly had me intrigued. The setting of the big house right on the cliff edge really helped set the scene as well as adding tension to the story.I had no clue what to expect when Kit starts her new job. I was eager to find out the truth about that night and not in my wildest dreams could I ever have imagined what actually did. Everyone seems to be hiding something and you donβt know who to trust. The sense of danger is there with every page turned and whilst I was eager for the truth, I was also worried for Kitβs personal safety as she gets closer to it. All I can say is nothing is as it seems. The Only One Left was a real mess with your head read. There was one part that I had to go back and reread as there was no way I thought I had read it right and thought it might have been a misprint. It wasnβt and the twist totally blew my mind. In fact when the twists hit, they just donβt stop. I just loved everything about it, the pacing, the plot and not forgetting those twists! A truly eerie, nail-biting read that is guaranteed to give you goosebumps!

Great book and one I will remember!
Really enjoyed this book. Felt it was creepy and had the right amount of tension to keep me guessing and the twists, right at the end, left me shocked!! I loved the ending ππ» the only reason I did not give 5 stars is because I felt it dragged on a little bit in the middle but saved itself at the end! Great book and I've always enjoyed this author π

I really enjoyed this book
It was a great read had a good story line. Minimal swearing which is always great. To have proper words instead of lots of swearing . I wanted to never put the book down and not come to end all at the same time.

Bit too much
If it had ended a few pages earlier it would have been 4 stars. I can only take so much. Itβs a shame because it is a compelling read. Itβs not a horror novel though, more thriller. I read it in one sitting because I needed to know what happened that night. If you struggle with things being illogical and overthink a little this book will leave you feeling very disappointed. The amount of time between the past events and the present makes the final twist even more ridiculous. I donβt think I will read anything else by this author as this sort of ending seems to be something in most of his novels, which is a shame because heβs a very good writer otherwise.

Rating: 4.5 Stars
Rating: 4.5 β¨Oh my gosh this book was so good! I havenβt read a thriller with this many twists in so long. The pacing is really good, I never felt like I was bored or just waiting to find out what happens next. The perspective of the main protagonist is really clever and there are so many parallels between their story and the murders in 1929 which I loved.Itβs creepy, twisty, and has this dark atmosphere that I just canβt explain that set the scene so well. It also had me feeling surprisingly emotional at times and touched on some pretty tragic themes. The end of the book is absolutely crazy, so many reveals, twists and turns that I didnβt see coming and the backstory fits it all together perfectly. This was my first time reading a book from this author and Iβd definitely read more after this πͺIf youβre a thriller lover, this book is for you!!βπ π ππΎππΎπππΎπΎπ, π«πΎππππΊ π§πππΎπ§πππ ππΎπ πππππΎπ ππππ πΊ ππππΎπ²ππΊπ»π»πΎπ½ ππΎπ πΏπΊπππΎπ ππππ πΊ ππππΏπΎπ³πππ ππΎπ πππππΎπβπ ππΊπππ π ππΏπΎ'π¨π ππΊππβπ ππΎ,β π«πΎππππΊ ππΊππ½π‘ππ πππΎβπ πππΎ πππ π πππΎ πππ π½πΎπΊπ½.β

Atmospheric and unnerving
I haven't got to the end yet but I cannot wait until I do. It is a really enthralling story but because I don't sleep well I read on my kindle on and off through the night and this is the first book for years that has given me pause when I want to make a cup of tea or pop to the loo. I am so spooked and unsettled I have to wake my dog to come with me to do these deeds - she can't wait until I finish the book also! I don't need to give you my opinion of the content or writing or style. The plot synopsis tells you everything you need to know. If you live in a house you have never been afraid in, then read this book in the daylight and all will be well. The atmosphere changes as you read by the light of your Kindle at 4 in the morning and makes you taste real fear. I am positive the ending will not be anything like I have so far imagined so I am enjoying the ride
