Cable & X-Force: Onslaught Rising

Rough start but once the stories get going they're engaging
The first thing that has to be discussed is the title Onslaught Rising. Onslaught was Professor Xavier’s even self released upon the Earth. For whatever reason Marvel released a whole bunch of trade paper backs collections with Onslaught in it even though they didn’t really have anything to do with that character and this is another example. The collection gets off to a rough start with X-Force end Cable 95 is a perfect example. The team is on vacation when the Impossible Man appears and begs Cable to allow his children to be included in X-Force so that they can learn discipline. The story is ridiculous and the art looks like a TV cartoon. Then things progressively get better until the best which, which is when Cable confronts Nate Grey a younger version of himself without the technorganic virus who suddenly appeared out of nowhere.Overall, Onslaught Rising proves to be a good collection The plots may take a bit of time to get going but when they do they are engaging and full of action. The one letdown is the art is up and down.

More 90s X-Force Goodness
More and more I find myself enjoying 90s X-Force. I don’t know why. There’s something very charming about them. Although this volume isn’t quite as good as the first 2, owing largely to the Onslaught crossovers right in the middle, it marks the end of Jeph Kiev’s run. And for that alone it’s worth giving a read.
