A great graphics manual...
No book can teach you graphics, or all about print and design, there is no substitute for experience. However this gives a wide overview of many of the disciplines that goes to make up being a graphic designer. If you are on a graphics course, or have just started out, then I would say you could do a lot worse than get this book and read it cover to cover.

Great if you're a student
I think this manual is a good choice if you are studying for graphic design, as it gives you great tips on several subjects about the area. I'm only a bit disappointed that the book came with a little fold on the bottom of the cover (but that may be related to the service of the carrier).

Well written and concise
This book gives a great overview of the whole technical process of graphic design in print, covering a lot of ground. Looking at the book from a non graphic design (product design) perspective I learnt a lot about the technical details, terms, processes and finishes available within print design.I also purchased a number books from the authors 'Basics Design' range and found these to have more in-depth information on each individual topic but obviously at a higher cost for the whole range. If you're looking for a book that explains the whole process well, I would definitely go for this, If then you find you want to know all the little details look at the other range of books (They're written in a very similar style).Overall a concise well written book, well worth the money.

The practical side of design
This is a nice book for an area of design that's often neglected - the production stages. It's very easy to spend all your design time on the computer now and not give much thought to how your design is going to come out. This book covers everything you need to know on the practical side - paper formats, qualities, thicknesses and sizes, image types, colour channels, practical typography (kerning, leading, baselines, runaround), colours (pantone and spot), scanning, overprinting, bleed, registration, trim, gatefolds, printing methods, binding, embossing, debossing, folding, trimming, laminating, and so on and on.An absolutely essential book as far as I'm concerned - deals with all the things you forget about.

A must for a Design Student!
Fully illustrated, bursting with information. This is a must for any design student! Beautifully designed from start to finish, taking you through every single process and technique available out there to a print designer. I have learned so much from this book, it is a print bible. The photographs and bite size amounts of information make it easy to read and extremely captivating, it is hard to put down. It breaks down all limitations a design student may think they have and open their eyes to an endless array of techniques and possibilities. Extremely motivational, BUY IT you will not be disappointed.
