Don’t bother with this book!
A real disappointment. It is a very short book, the text is very large and the pages are not numbered. I read it in 15 minutes. My copy also contained another very short book entitled Auschwitz by David McGregor, and although it had a worthy intention was badly written and not what I wanted in a book about methamphetamine. The book on methamphetamine itself was also poorly written with poor punctuation, and at times I was confused about what the author was trying to express. The author also states various figures and stats, but there are no references to where they come from - for example, amounts are given for what the author claims are a “lethal dose” but no indication of who provided them, or when or where the figures were obtained. The author does provide some basic facts about meth, but I believe I have read this info on a variety of websites. So save your money, google instead. I have also read about these facts in greater detail in other better written books that include proper referencing and citations.I also noted a number of omissions from the brief factual information this book contains, for example, in a list of the ways meth can be taken there is no mention that it can be taken rectally. It also mentions that meth is associated with hiv and hepatitis infection in relation to iv usage but does not explain how this occurs. There are 2 poems included in the book, which are by “two real life users”. These poems supposedly reinforce the central message of the book (that meth usage is a bad thing) but some biographical info on the users might have helped. As it is, I found them unnecessary. The book’s intention, to show the negative effects of meth, is worthy but as someone researching the subject I found this book useless. Finally, I might have forgiven the author many of the books shortcomings if he included some biographical detail and insight into why he chose to write it - was he a former addict? The single star is for the worthy intent and nothing else.
