Lynch and Ligotti inspiring some people who should read, not write and publish.
The names Lynch and Ligotti enticed me to buy this anthology. There's "The Weird" in fiction, and then there is just junk. This collection is mostly built of the latter. Very disappointed.

A fine tribute to a cinematic genius
One could, even with the Lynch tie-in, make a safe comparison between these stories and the stories in editor/writer Michael Richardson's surrealist collections. There is little concern for even syntactical convention, and when there is, it functions as a subversion of it. The imaginative juice is filled with a potency that few, if any, books can match. A bizarro hybrid honoring such classics as Blue Velvet and Eraserhead. Recommended.

Shock Over Storytelling.
I couldn't resist buying this. I'd heard good things about Thomas Ligotti, and I've been a longtime fan of David Lynch so . . . Anyways, this compilation was hard to finish. I'm not squeamish or the type to shy away from weird subject matter or characters, but this more shock than solid stories. The first one in the collection had a pretty strong Lynch vibe, but to me it seemed like the only one. There were a few good stories in here, but not good enough to make up for the thing as a whole. Some interesting ideas were weighed down with too much "dark" paint. Overall this thing felt like it was put out for a cool-kid niche crowd, but seeing the listing at the back for the publishers' other books I shouldn't be so surprised. Everybody's taste is different, though, so maybe it'll be you're style--it wasn't mine.

Rich, Deep, Weird
Man, these stories are great. Well-written and weird as hetstack. Awesome characterization, body-switching, mystery, classy disassociative literature. This truly is a must-read for any Lynch fan.

Sometimes
This book can unnerve you. I didn't read it order, it seemed right. The purpose somehow.Sam Pink's story is most believable and by odds likable.A lot of the stories took place in diners, I liked that. It's like that painting Nighthawks.
