Excellent for the money. However, some simple changes could make this outstanding - 3 out of 5.
I bought two of these, one for each bedside. was a little reluctant, as your never really sure what you'll get with a brand you haven't used before.Firstly the good: Both speakers look great - no quality issues, nicely finished, packaging was spot on, - aesthetically my decision was right, they are way better than your usual plastic crap bedside clock. The instructions, although basic, eventually get you there, once you understand its functions, its easy enough to setup. i haven't tried the usb slot or the micro sd card slot, but they are worthy additions that may come in useful later. it also has a 3.5mm jack input for aux input and is powered by a standard micro usb phone connector. Blutooth connection is solid, paired easily to my fire tablet; spotify then controllable from buttons on speaker (basic stop/pause/ffwd/rwd). Although i don't have "golden ears" or have turned the volume to max, the sound is very good - to me anyway, loud enough at point 8 (out of 0-15) and i was truly surprised for the price and the size - it IS a good sound - for what its made for (its never going to beat a dedicated hifi - but you wouldn't purchase a £29 speaker to do that!)Now the not-so-good: The alarm! easy to set, easy to turn on/off yet the volume can't be adjusted!?! and guess what, its loud! basics, and fundamental if your using it as a bedside clock. Secondly, the big silver knob doesn't cancel the alarm - you have to find the pause button, which is a touch sensitive surface - useless if your shocked into life and are in the dark. why not use the big silver knob (which is also a button)??The micro usb cable is too short, needs to be 1.5m minimum and doesn't come with 240v transformer, so you'll need an old phone charger. When it is charging it has this big red led above the clock - a smaller led would have been better, and hidden on the back, better still.Regardless of what volume you set the speaker, the function buttons keep the same LOUD beep when pressed(touched), and i don't believe you can alter this.Points to note: The device name is the same on both units, so when pairing, its trial and error to get the right one (this isn't so much a negative - just bear it in mind, and just because they are the same, you can't play from both at the same time - they don't link. (i guess you could use the aux input split from a 'Y' adapter and wired to your media hub/echo dot/mp3 player etc. and that would work. What i haven't tried yet: the usb input - apart from music on a memory stick, could you link this t a pc and maybe alter the setup? if so, its not in the instructions. Haven't tried the micro sd slot, but would imagine it will be the same as the usb.In summary: Beautiful unit, sound is very nice, optional media inputs very welcome, quality is spot on. Alarm clock would be ok if you live alone, or have trouble getting up on a morning! I think in hindsight, this maybe better for the kitchen. It would have been nice if it had been wifi, or alexa enabled, but for £29 its still a really nice buy - if you bear my comments above in mind.I would be interested to hear form plusdot, if they can resolve the above issues, maybe its just an instruction thing, but we will see...hope this helps.
