This is a piece of my pressed plant pottery which I have formed into a decorative wall cross. The clay is rolled out into a slab with the fresh flora pressed into the wet clay leaving the 3-D imprint on the surface. It is hand cut into the design of a cross, and when the mud is dried it is carefully put into the kiln for the first firing leaving it a plain white piece of bisque clay. It is then hand painted with under glaze stains to replicate the plants color in their natural state, much like painting water colors on a porous sponge. It is then covered with a clear glaze and fired again leaving it a high gloss piece of ornamental art for your walls. This cross measures 11 1/2 inches top to bottom and 9 inches across, with thickness of clay at approximately 1/4 inch. Each piece comes with a informational insert that describes the creation process. This particular cross has a small cross opening for the hanging point, it has the Honeysuckle flower used, with a small group of ferns at the base. The flowers are a pale blue-purple-pink coloration with yellow stamens, and the leaves and ferns the darker green. No two pieces are exactly the same.
