I am a regular reader of this excellent guide which is published annually. I use it only for restaurants, and disregard the hotel element. I thoroughly recommend it if you are a serious foodie who is contemplating a visit to France. To get the full value out of it, you need to be able to read French, although there are a few pages in English at the beginning which explain the various awards. To get a mention at all a restaurant has to be pretty good. If it offers seriously good food at a reasonable price, it earns a ‘bib gourmand’. If it offers culinary excellence, it earns one, two, or three ‘rosettes’ as determined by the Michelin inspectors. While the small number of three rosette restaurants tend to be expensive, there are a number of one or even two rosette restaurants which offer very reasonable prices. The categorisation by the anonymous Michelin inspectors is rigorous and consistent. I have not yet found any restaurant which did not live up to its Michelin categorisation. Enjoy!

This guide provides an excellent overview of restaurants and accommodation. The maps are easy to read and provide a thorough understanding of locations and points of interest.

This guide was my family's trip planner for generations but the recent version lacks information on hotels (making the city maps useless), has no prices, and dropped so many familiar cities that I found it uninteresting.
