This is my Zebra Hat. I did the knots.
I ordered this for my five year old daughter, knowing that the majority of the work would fall to me. I thought this would be a fun way for her to practice tying knots. She was very excited about her Zebra Hat, although she repeatedly complained that there were too many knots and it took too long. She was not able to knot the hat in one sitting (I would have been able to do it easily). I think we worked on it 3 or 4 times before the knots were done. I did all of the "sewing". Overall, I would consider this project a great success. By the end, she was much better at knotting than she was at the beginning. She also ended with a very cute hat that she is proudly telling people she made. "This is my Zebra Hat. I did the knots."

Funky Zebra hat!
The recommend age is above six years old but your average six year old would not be able to accomplish this craft on their own. My girls are older but love anything they can craft and while the design is just too young for them, it would be great way for a young teen to bond with a younger sibling. There are many knots that are easy enough but you might falter when it comes to the stitching; this is where you would help the younger ones. The pattern is a funky zebra and you end up with a cheapy knotted felt hat that is more decorative than useful. This wan't supposed to be your winter hat, just a cool afternoon project that they created on their own.Highly recommend for children that LOVE crafts and have the patience. If your child is on the younger side, you will have to help with the stitching and MANY knots. Inexpensive craft that is fun for all.

Fun Activity
This is a fun craft that is precut and ready to go. Sure, you could make this without the kit- but it would likely cost you about the same or more and you’d have the work of cutting all the pieces out. This kit is perfect for kids 10 and older to work completely independently. It says 8 and up, but my 8 year old doesn’t have the direction following skills to do it completely alone. Under 10, expect to need to help guide the kid a bit more and show them how to do some things. It would be great for the 6-9 age group to work on motor skills. This is a cute gift for any kid or tween. It is a fun activity, and the focus should really be on the enjoyment of creating. The actual finished project isn’t really anything to write home about. They’ll love it because they made it.

Fun Project for Crafty Kids
My 8-year-old granddaughter loves to do crafts. She'll work on projects all day long, and even has a "craft area" set up in her room. I got this for her for the simple reason of the activity, more so than the resulting hat.My granddaughter needed some help with directions and the needle work. While the age range states 8 and up, I think kids under 10 or so will need adult supervision and guidance. It's not the kind of thing you can give them to work on alone. The end result is pretty silly, but that's obvious from the photo. It's a fun hat for play or even Halloween, but not something most kids will wear out.

Fun and mostly functional hat
This one was a little trickier than most to get done, especially lining up and sewing the eyes, but it made a lovely fun hat for a little girl. It's warm enough for late fall or early spring, but it's not meant as a dead of winter hat depending on your climate. I mean Florida sure (do they know what hats are in Florida?) but New England, definitely not. Mind, they said the kit would provide a hat that a child can make and a child can wear; it said nothing about a hat that a parent can get the child to take off already.Hand wash.

A Bit Difficult for Our 8 Year Old
This is a cute project for an afternoon of crafting. The suggested age range of 8 and up, however, seems optimistic. My 8 year old daughter is smart and loves all things craft-related, but this project was too tough for her to do without a lot of help and she found the instructions too complicated. Be prepared to help a lot with kids under 10 or so. Also, the older the child the more questionable the appeal of such a zany design. Overall, the finished hat is cute but it was only a so-so experience for our 8 year old.
