These whiskey rocks do their job very well – chill them in the freezer for a few hours and they do an even better job than ice (in my opinion) in cooling whatever your choice of liquid happens to be. The wooden box in which they come is well made and looks very “gifty” – the velour drawstring bag and chromed tongs only add to the allure.Unfortunately, all is not completely without difficulty. The rocks are not polished along their edges – chuck them into a glass too enthusiastically, especially if it’s leaded glass, and scratches and chips may appear in your drinkware; always remember that the rocks are far harder than glass or glazed ceramic. It is also well to store the rocks in their presentation box. I noticed that if they are stored in their bag, and the bag jostled around in a drawer, a bit of rock dust begins to accumulate – not the sort of thing one wishes to see in their drink!All-in-all, however, if used and stored with care, these rocks are *the* best way to cool down your refreshment enjoyably. They do their job and don't water down your drink.I rinse mine off prior to use, air dry them, place them in the bag, and throw them in the freezer. This little set is a perfect stocking stuffer or gift set for any whiskey or bourbon drinker in your life. It’s the cutest little set and the stones works perfectly. I’m happy with them!

This set comes in a nice wooden box, which makes this very giftable. Inside the box are nine stones, a drawstring storage bag, and small tongs. While the bag is intended for storage, I prefer to keep them in the box while in the freezer. I pulled the stones out of the freezer, added four to my glass, and added a room-temperature beverage. I swirled it around and measured the liquid to be at 51 degrees F. After one hour I measured again and noted the beverage was still nine degrees below room temperature. The stones are the color of ground black pepper, which you may or may not find visually appealing, depending on the glass and the beverage. Cools your beverage without diluting it with water! Recommended.

Whiskey drinkers I know seem to prefer whiskey stones to ice cubes since they stay cold and do not melt/dilute the drink. I ordered this as a small gift for a friend and I'm sure he will love it. My only complaint is that the presentation box would look nicer (and higher end) if the outside of the lid were plain wood and not labeled WHISKEY STONES with a picture of the cubes. I think that cheapens the product. Would have been 5 stars without this woodburned label on the lid.
