good info and a good story of one man that doesn't go sentimental
I have epilepsy, people are still very scared of it as there is little info published about it. This is good information and a good biography of one man with it written by his brother who is a doctor who doesn't go sentimental, describing accurately how epilepsy affects people in society

Fascinating and moving read
This was a fascinating read. The author handled the subject in a really interesting and insightful manner. There were no answers but it really helped understanding of a little talked about condition. Beautiful writing too. Thank you for sharing this story. The emotion and love for the author’s brother came through strongly and was deeply moving.

This book is a must read on Epilepsy !
This fantastic book A Smell of Burning: The Story of Epilepsy by Colin Grant on Epilepsy, is from the perspective of a medic who was in training, as well as the brother to his brother who had Epilepsy, and who died from it ( SUDEP ). It's a warming story, that's full of character which mixes up medical training, the history of Epilepsy, and living personally with Epilepsy within the family. I'm glad in the end that Epilepsy here in this book, isn't a taboo subject. Colin Grant is a brilliant author and writer, and this book is a must read !

This is a profoundly moving and informative piece of work. Medicine's loss is writings gain. Insightful, determined in its search for meaning and delicately woven. I was undone

A beautiful and thoughtful mix between memoir & history.
A beautiful and thoughtful mix between memoir & history. Colin is an excellent and thorough historian. I enjoyed moving through the personal narrative about his brother. A must read for 2017 or any year!
