UltraTuff TSA Approved Lock - RED OPEN ALERT Indicator for Luggage & GYM Lockers

 Since I am not that big of a fan of writing reviews, I thought I would create a video review. It goes into much more detail as to why I love this lock. Please note that I had not traveled prior to shooting this video. But I have sine then.I did some traveling over the holidays to visit family. With all the madness and chaos at the airports, I wanted to have the confidence that only TSA had access to my bag. And although they didn't need to inspect my bag this time, I have the confidence that everything is secured.The quality of construction and the ease of use of this lock is awesome. And changing the default code was super easy as well. I actually show you in the video. I also purchased Alpine Rivers' UltraFlex lock as well for my bigger bag. You can check out that video review I left if you'd like. I needed this lock for my smaller bag. I am very pleased with their locks and would recommend them to anyone who travels or who even needs a good quality lock for the gym or even if your work has lockers. Great buy and great value.

These locks are great and very nice looking for a lock. They are perfect for luggage and feel very study. I like that it has the pop up button to show whether or not TSA has opened my luggage or not. We just got back from a trip and these worked perfectly. The only thing I would improve upon would be to make the numbers a separate color on the dial. Most people would not have this issue, but I wear readers to see tiny things up close and the numbers are just engraved on the silver metal on the dial and can be a little bit hard to see if you are in a dimly lit place or need readers to see up close. Arrived before the listed delivery date. Well packaged, directions for setting the code clear and concise. Product appears to be well made, sturdy and certainly more robust than previous TSA approved locks utilized. At this time, I am impressed with the product and will be putting them to the test with a trip to Bonaire.Update: 10 AprilJust returned from Bonaire and am 100% satisfied with this product. Locked both scuba gear bags and they withstood the best the TSA could throw at them. Far superior to previously used locks which were unable to withstand the rigors of airplane travel with the locks deforming under pressure from the baggage handlers.

This is a nice, simple lock. Easy to use. About what you would expect, really. I have only used it so far on gym lockers, so I can't share personal experience with travel/TSA use of the lock (though presumably if it has been checked by TSA, the little red button on the top will pop up to indicate). When you change the numbers, each one sort of pops into place, so that is nice (rather than thinking they were in place and struggling to get the lock open only to realize that you had one of the numbers sliiiiiiightly off-center). My only concern with this lock is that the narrow end of the lock (in the main picture, I believe it is what you can see on the right edge of the product in the picture) only faces one direction, and if your lock is in a tight position or you can't twist it, it may be difficult to see that end to verify the numbers are in the correct positions. What you see of the three number wheels on the back/front (wide sides of the lock) are just windows of the wheel, but not where you set the correct arrangement of numbers for the combination. I suppose if you were really concerned about it, you could just learn what the wide-side numbers say (e.g. when I set the lock to 0-0-0, what faces me on the front of the lock is 3|2, so I could know to set it to this in order to put 0-0-0 on the side). This may not be an issue in regular use, but it is something I would just be aware of so you aren't stuck unable to see your combination to unlock it.

I just opened my locks and followed the VERY easy directions on how to reset the combination to my personal combo. Very easy to set. Very easy to use. I have not used them on luggage yet, but if anything changes after my trip, I will update my review. I am very happy with the quality of these locks. They are small enough to fit in the zipper holes to lock your zipper together, and are a durable, metal lock (not cheap plastic). So much better than using locks that require keys. No fumbling for keys, plus, you can set your own combo (very easy) so you have a combo you won't forget! Opens quickly for those last minute items you need to slip in the luggage, etc. I would have to say the black numbers on the spin dials are easier to read on the red lock than they are on the black lock, even though both have black numbers. It may just be because of the black on the lock that reflects more than the red lock, but both are easy enough to see.

The best feature of this lock is that it is a combination lock and you don't look for the key to open it or risk losing the key. We have combination locks built in to the luggage that is normally checked, but on our last trip the airline was looking for volunteers to check carry on bags because the flight was fully booked and space was going to be tight. We thought it would be a good idea to check them because we had a short time between connecting flights. We normally don't lock our carry ons because they're with us during the flight. Unfortunately when we reached our final destination one of the bags was halfway open and fortunately upon inspection there was nothing missing. That bag contained a MacBook, iPad and several Christmas gifts. (We had been visiting our daughter and her husband for the holidays.) Deciding this was not going to happen again, I ordered these locks before we left the airport. These locks are as described and the combinations are easy to change.
