Excellent Seed Starting Medium!
I have used Burpee seed starting products before, and always found them to be high quality. This was the first time using the Burpee Organic Coconut Coir Concentrated Seed Starting Mix, 16 Quart, but it won't be my last! It is now my favorite seed starting medium. It arrives as a dehydrated block, wrapped in a thin plastic. I was suspicious of how it would absorb the water and rehydrate, as I've found highly dehydrated products challenging to rehydrate quickly. However, I was impressed with how easy it was to fully rehydrate this starting mix. I added it to a bucket, added the suggested amount of water and within just a few minutes the water was absorbed and the seed mix was rehydrated. I was able to have my seeds sown and ready to germinate within an hour of the package arriving at my door! My seeds germinated well, and have gone on to produce high-quality seedlings. I didn't use all the mix in one go, once rehydrated it expanded, and there was more than I needed for my trays. I stored the bucket in my garage until I needed it again a few weeks later. The water had evaporated from the mix, but I was able to add more water and quickly be ready to sow more seeds. I will be ordering more once this has run out. I highly recommend the seller and the product.

Great stuff!
Perfect for my Pachira Aquatica! Hard for me to figure out how much to reconstitute with water. A little goes a long way. Love that I can also save unused portion in dry form for a very long time.

Fantastic and easy soil condition!
This is the best soil additive for raised beds I have ever encountered. Each brick weights next to nothing so I don't need to wheel barrow it any where. Toss it in a 5 gal. bucket, cover it with water and the next day you have around 2 cubic feet of material (it seems to keep expanding for several days). I mix ir with equal parts sifted compost for starting seeds. As a top dressing it really helps retain water and working it into the soil builds bulk and breaks down clay quickly. Wish I'd known about this year's ago!

Strange chemical smell
I purchased this coconut coir thinking that it was plain/untreated so that I could use it to set up a worm farm composter. When I soaked the brick to expand it, it gave off a strange scent. Maybe fertilizer? I was concerned that whatever was making the smell might harm my worms, so I put this coir aside for gardening purposes and used a different brand of coco coir that just smelled like dirt for my worms. Overall it seems like a great product! It has been working well for plants. I only deducted one star because it did smell quite strongly.

1st time user -- lifetime buyer!
I was looking for planting soil as my yard is mostly clay-based. I saw this & was immediately intrigued. I purchased 4 to get my seeds started (totally too much lol I underestimated just how much these bricks would yield). I eventually purchased wheel-barrow sized blocks too; just to cover my entire garden. Anyways, my seeds thrived in this soil alternative! I had grow lights & heating mat setup in my seeding room in my basement. The soil has barely any smell to it & it feels like fine potting soil. The leftovers were in a bucket that I covered with a trash bag. It remained wet for weeks after! I eventually dumped it into my outside garden. The only downside I foresee is that this soil will not hold nutrients like regular, in-the-ground soil; so be prepared to have nutrients ready to feed your plants. From my research & trial/errors, I add the following: calcium, magnesium, nitrogen, iron, worm casing fertilizer & nitrogen-based plant food pebbles. Additionally, the soil will dry out in the sun long before the undersoil. So be very, very aware of how much you water your plants. Since this soil dries quickly, you do not want to over-water. That's why I added the worm casing fertilizer; as it is like regular soil & retains moisture. Just keep watch & be vigilant for when you should be watering. Overall, this soil variant is not only cheaper than buying bags of planting soil but it is also not as heavy to carry! Yes there is more upkeep in certain things; but I enjoy gardening work so I don't mind spending extra time doing it.

Nourish Your Plants Naturally
The Burpee Organic Coconut Coir Block Mix is a game-changer for gardeners seeking a sustainable and effective growing medium for their plants. As an advocate for organic gardening practices, I've found this coconut coir mix to be an invaluable addition to my gardening arsenal. One of the standout features of this product is its eco-friendly composition. Made from renewable coconut husks, it's a natural alternative to traditional peat-based soil mixes, making it an environmentally conscious choice for conscientious gardeners. By using coconut coir, we can reduce our reliance on non-renewable resources and minimize our carbon footprint. The compact block expands significantly when hydrated with water, providing ample lightweight and airy growing medium for plants. Its excellent water retention properties ensure consistent moisture levels, promoting healthy root development and reducing the need for frequent watering. Unlike some soil mixes that may be too acidic or alkaline, coconut coir maintains a balanced pH level, promoting optimal nutrient uptake and overall plant health. Highly recommend!

Most efficient way to start your seeds
So easy to use. No smell. Water retention is amazing. Be ready for an enormous amount of product for your seedlings/planting in the best way possible! 😀 this came as two bricks and one brick filled my 5gallon bucket over 1/2 of the way when it was finally finished absorbing all the water. I’ve previously used the smaller seed ones for trays and this is less work and more for your money. My growth rate has went from 5-7 days to only 3 days for most seeds Will purchase again!

Very pleased with this
Never heard or saw of these before till I saw them on here so thought I give them a try and I’m quite pleased. These were super easy to use within a week I already had veggies breaking though the soil, the picture is at around 3 weeks after sowing the seeds. So much less mess then fighting with a bag of dirt, color of dirt looks rich, absorbs water great overall the quality seems great so far I’m very glad I decided to give this a shot and will be ordering more of these
